i can definately give my stamp of approval to the no constant rpm breakin method. i did it with my truck and it runs like a champ, i had a head replaced and the technician said it looked like new inside after 30k miles. i get better MPG and more power then most I5 colorado owners report.
i do need to find a new wax as the meguires i just tried sucks, if anything hits the car you can see a white spot were the rock hit the truck and it stands out. i really dont want to rewax just because of that. i do not use Microfiber to clean or wash but i do use it to take the wax off. and it give a great finish, specifically i use the mits with the microfiber mop looking things. and i love them. they are only used to take of wax and are then washed by themselves to take the wax out. but i do have a complaint....... im so tired of hearing people complaining about eating in cars. that is a completely personal decision i realize that people have to make but it also goes along with being CAREFUL. if you cant trust your self to eat thats fine but dont try impose your inability to control your motor functions.

chili dogs, soup from a bowl with a spoon, salads eaten with a fork...all fair game in my car.....ok maybe not, but burgers, tacos, burritoes, frys, pitas are all welcome especially with a 64oz dr pepper.

Teflon I. Think I'm off on spelling but that keeps ur car looking brand new. my dad and mom and my car and our other cars have it it keeps the car looking brand new it's a special clear wax that doesn't alps things to ruin the paint and it also is applied in the interior also.

Yeah, i always use microfibers and never have problems, if there is dirt on the car anything will pick it up and scratch but right after a wash they work great, just make sure you use clean ones, they will pick up tiny things if you drop them

I think this advice is exactly backwards. Check out sites that specialize in professional auto detailing products to get the information, like at Meguiars. You can't go wrong with their products, knowledge, and experience. Meguiars (and all other auto detailing sites for that matter) recommend using microfiber or terry cloth for drying and removing wax and polish. I've been using microfiber on my '05 Mustang for 3-1/2 years and it doesn't have a single swirl mark or scratch. http://www.meguiars.com/

I like california dusters, and they do a good job if its just a light road dust, and the duster stays somewhat clean. Samething as anything else though, keep it clean, and if it hits the ground, wash it.

Drive it hard, but make sure it's warm - here's a link with instructions that switched my habits
http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm I also change my oil at 100 miles, 1000 miles, then every 3000 miles Also, not to promote another forum or anything (because this one is awesome!), but bimmerforums has the best detailing info, advise and reviews I've seen (sponsored by autogeek.com, the best online detailing supply store out there) http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum...play.php?f=147 |

direct from that forum It’s very important to choose tools that are gentle on the paint, yet effective at removing contamination. As a rule of thumb, sponges and mitts that are plush or have a deep nap are better than flat weave towels or dense sponges. For example, a Natural Sea Sponge has numerous deep compartments where dirt and debris can accumulate. The natural fibers themselves will not scratch the paint and they will essentially pull contamination into the sponge’s openings, away from the paint. Always use the softer side of the sponge for washing. Rinse new sea sponges thoroughly before use to remove any shell fragments or sand. |

ATTENTION ADMINS!
This brings up a good point...what's the forum structure that we're going to be looking at once people start getting their cars? I think we're going to need some subforms...personally I LOVE the detailing subforum on bimmerforums and have used it for years. I'm sure in the engine section we'll need a subform for FI as well....maintenance, etc.... Better to be organized up front and get all the good information catalogued from the start. |
