Moreover, the US may not have a specific law on speeding, but states do. It is nearly impossible to make a blanket statement about traffic laws in the US since states have the stranglehold on how they operate.

actually... that's probably not a good analogy. one person can easily terrorize another mentally without getting into trouble. ask any spouse who has to live with their partner who has filed for divorce. cops won't do crap about abuse until it becomes physical.

Speed limits are a precautionary step to keep roadways safe. While there may not have been an injury involved with said persons speeding, it's a preventive measure that is being charged. Speeding tickets try to prevent injuries to others by promoting safe driving.

I'd be willing to bet he has a few tickets under his belt that he was not able to talk his way out of so he posted that stupid video. In PA if the officer is equiped with speed timing equipment, properly trained, equipment properly tested and roadway properly posted the citation is valid.

Directly from SC statutes concerning speeding. I'm not a lawyer or even play one on TV, but I can read and what I read says violating posted speed limits. That guy may not think he's violating the law when speeding, but if he speeds through South Carolina, it's against the law in these parts.

RESTRICTIONS ON SPEED; RACING


SECTION 56-5-1520. General rules as to maximum speed limits; lower speeds may be required.
(A) A person shall not drive a vehicle on a highway at a speed greater than is reasonable and prudent under the conditions and having regard to the actual and potential hazards then existing. Speed must be so controlled to avoid colliding with a person, vehicle, or other conveyance on or entering the highway in compliance with legal requirements and the duty of a person to use care.
(B) Except when a special hazard exists that requires lower speed for compliance with subsection (A), the limits specified in this section or established as hereinafter authorized are maximum lawful speeds, and a person shall not drive a vehicle on a highway at a speed in excess of these maximum limits:
(1) seventy miles an hour on the interstate highway system and other freeways where official signs giving notice of this speed are posted;
(2) sixty miles an hour on multilane divided primary highways where official signs giving notice of this speed limit are posted;
(3) fifty-five miles an hour in other locations

(G) A person violating the speed limits established by this section is guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction for a first offense, must be fined or imprisoned as follows:
(1) in excess of the above posted limit but not in excess of ten miles an hour by a fine of not less than fifteen dollars nor more than twenty-five dollars;
(2) in excess of ten miles an hour but less than fifteen miles an hour above the posted limit by a fine of... (yadda yadda)

Wow. What you quoted says a speeding ticket for within 10 MPH shouldn't be more than 25 dollars? I know MANY courts in violation of that one. I've seen speeding tickets like that cost will over $100. Guess even those in charge of applying the law can't be bothered to follow it. So sad.
