The dealership doesn't have to go with any pricing you agree with. this is why I keep stating the importance of finding a dealership you trust.

I know some will argue but it is fact, the only true way a dealership has to adhere to a agreement if it is clearly laid out and a binding contract. I written proposal and deposit does not meet the requirements for a binding contract.

Now any half way decent dealership wouldn't do something like that for teh reputation and all or maybe fear of a report to the BBB.

I had a similar experience. I was told I'd get a discount by two different salespeople, one an 8-year salesman, and the other a sales manager, at two different times. When I went to the dealership to order, I was told by the owner's wife, no way. They said they could give me MSRP (I think, you know how dealers can kind of talk around the issue so you don't get a straight answer). I realize MSRP is good right now, but I just don't see any reason to pay that, when I know I can get it for less in the not-too-distant future. And I really don't NEED it, nor do I have to have it right now...

I try not to think about that... hoping that the demand won't be as high and that production will be higher than it.

But hopefully... MSRP is the worst I have to pay for it. (Never thought I'd say that.)

I remember when the new Civics came out, and the dealership down my street was marking them up by 5k... I asked him, "These are civics right? you're marking up civics?? Is there anything special about these here??"

His response:

"No. People will pay it though so the markup will stay until they won't."

I laughed and walked away. That scares me now because if someone would charge a markup on a civic, they probably all think they can get more for the camaro's. I hope the dealerships are different with chevy's than hondas. I'll find out as soon as they open up early ordering for the convertibles...

That still blows me away though....

What everyone needs to remember, when ordering, have them put in writing that you will buy the car for MSRP or less, and make sure you have in writing that your deposit is fully 100% refundable upto and including the day of delivery.

I hope you know that means nothing.............

The only reason they would have to give a refund for your deposit is because it is illegal to unless there is services rendered.

Getting pricing in writing is purely for YOUR piece of mind. Any decent dealer honors that just like they honor most verbal just because you need to protect your reputation or you damage your cusotmer base.

Your use of the word germaine reminded me of that. I used that word the other day and my fiancee quoted the movie too. I thought that clip in supermans sig was pretty interesting.
