It is critical that GM clairify this issue ASAP. I like pedigree cars. That means if a stripe is on the car it is geninue GM and part of the RPO or model order.

Anyone can customize a Camaro. I have no issues with a personal preferance. The stripe issue is a bit bigger than that for me however given the huge GM backed concept exposure, the movie car, and finally the GM roll out stripe photo example.

To date there is the overarching fact that so far with minor changes the Camaro concept cosmetics stayed pretty close (visually) to what we are seeing as the final production with factory authorized accessories going way beyond the concept. This is very good for GM.

Accessories include 21" wheels and tires - along with a wing spoiler, and a ground effects kit-- and I am to believe that a simple decal stripe cannot be made a few inches longer when I am willing to pay extra for the longer decal? I am not understanding this. This needs to be explained to me.

Use of what amounts to the torid looking 1992 Heritage short style stripe configuration is a game changer for me on this car and its final styling, and I am not going to a local decal house to change the looks of a brand new car, a car that is otherwise, is the most exciting offering out of GM in a lifetime.

Points very well taken.

Seems that the stripe issues are more important, to so many, than was expected. I too, would rather have the stripe package as part of the RPO and included on my factory list.

I will probably order the stripe option, even though I would like them to extend beyond the hood, but that's one of the packages I want to remain original GM and documented for my car.

How do you know that?

FBodfather has stated on another thread that the rally stripes are on the hood only.

no one come to my house and shoot me, but why cant GM make the Camaro Stripes more liek the....mustangs. The stripes on that car look amazing in my opinion. Also, do these rally stripes run over the top of the camaro and on the back or just along the hood?

I'm not ordering stripes if they are only on the hood, but i'm still getting the car. I love this car and while i'm VERY unhappy about them shortening the stripe, it's not a deal killer. It just saves me a little money. And I have not ordered yet, since i'm getting a 'vert, but if I had ordered, I would cancel the stripe.

I'm not even sure if what I said was the reasoning behind the move to stop at the hood...but if it was, you can be sure they took the saved money and put it towards something more worthwhile...say...powertrain/suspension/interior/build quality?

EDIT: It drove me nuts after I mentioned it....so I went and found the screen-caps from the MSNBC vid. Here they are:

I had gone back and forth over the last few days.

I finally decided to keep my stripes for two reasons.

1. After carefully looking at thes pics, I really like the way the stripes are really only on the "power bulge". It gives it an outlining effect. I can't help but wonder if that is why they stop where they do.

2. I perfectly understand the difficulty of getting around the mail slot, and the 35% waste is very bad. The mail slot was obviously done to distinguish the V6 and V8. IMO if you bring those stripes all the way down (in my case black), then you are de-emphasizing the main difference between the two.

That's my opinion. Just hope it help to make a hard decision for many a litlle easier.

Then those of us that are getting the V6 get screwed because we have nothing there and the short stripes just look stupid.

stripes only run on hood and back, not over the top.

Great point, sadly I didn't consider that.

I cancelled mine. I had ordered the Cyber Grey ones because I did want them factory installed. But I really wanted the black ones. Now that we found out they are short, forget it. Someone aftermarket will do them right, and probably in black.

If I decide to cancel my order for stripes and go with aftermarket, will I be able to install them myself? Is it as easy as getting the car really clean and then putting it on like a sticker and just making sure it is perfectly aligned, or will I have to take it somewhere and pay them a few hundred bucks to install it for me?

The vinyl itself is fairly easy to self-install but it's a good idea to get at least another pair of hands to help. Depending on how big of a kit you get it can be done in an hour or two fairly easily. That being said, if you're not confident in your ability to line things up you might want to drop the money on someone who has done it before so you're not ruining a $300+ stripe kit.

Also the following from another thread stating the source of the official word about stripes:

I personally want only authentic Chevy accessories on my new car, and want the heritage look badly enough that I won't cancel the stripes. But I'd certainly appreciate it if Chevy would reconsider the stripe length based on the rather sizeable amount of negative critiquing here on Camaro5 and possibly other sites too. I, like many others, think it looks cheap (yea, Chevy, you're keeping it cheap and it looks it!!!) and incomplete to stop the stripes at the end of the hood.
By the way, is Chevy keeping it cheap for themselves or the customer? Don't we come first and aren't most of us willing to pay a bit more for the stripes to be done right? I know I am. And as evidenced by this photo of the bumblebee colored SS, http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7624 the dimensioning and layout of the proper stripe has already been done. All Chevy has to do is say, hey, let's not do this too cheap, let's do it right, make more!
