I think it's unfair they spend 33% less in fuel than a Camaro. I think it's bull $hit people complain about stupid ass things that have nothing to do with a Camaro and are apples to oranges comparisons. Rock chips happen and they happen even more when the aerodynamics of the sides are shaped like the Camaros. I just worked on an '06 Mazda RX-8 with 99,2xx miles yesterday: it has paint protection film factory installed in a similar area where people are complaining of chipping on the Camaro. Porsche does the same thing on their cars. Your Camaro is not unique, nor does it defy how the world works. Chips happen. If they bother you that much - you have three possibilities: 1. Paint protection film (clear-bra) 2. Live with it. 3. Get a different car: I'd suggest a Hyundai Accent |

Share some photos of the chipped areas on your car.

There is nothing you can do except get the car repainted in certain panels. I tried to go to the dealer and even talked to the GM rep. They won't do a thing.
I was upset at first, but now it's like, whatever. You just get used to it. If I ever trade my car in, it will not hurt the value of my car, so I'm not worried.

![]() I used to be anal about it. Then after awhile you recognize it's just a car. Yes, one awesome rockin' ride, but still a car. Stuff like this will happen, we gotta learn to roll with it. I looked at my Honda Pilot and it's covered in paint chips. The more you drive and enjoy the car, the greater the chances of collateral damage

Hmm, I noticed that EVERY complaint in this thread was CGM, silver or black. My SW has zero paint chips as a daily driver in all weather and road conditions for over 4000 miles. Not one. Is this possibly just more noticeable on the silver and black cars, or are other colors being affected too?
And BTW, the paint isn't exposed to the elements, so the "water based paint" theory makes so sense. The better argument might be that the clearcoat is too thin (on some colors only?)

Look at how much the tires are exposed. Instead of hitting the inner fender liners rocks are hitting the sides of the car.

Call GM. I have heard many people getting it repaired under warranty. I even asked my dealer about it and he said the paint is covered under warranty and if I have an issue they will fix it. He even said he had already fixed once Camaro because of paint issues.

FWIW -
There is precedence that GM will admit fault with paint chipping issues, but only as a result of design flaws that cause road debris to be thrown up off the road. With the shape of the TB body being what it is in the lower portions this was a prevalent problem for that model, it didn't however get any attention until the TBSS was out - I suspect b/c enough SS owners cared enough to complain where standard TB owners probably didn't. The addition of 20" wheels probably only made the problem worse as well. Obviously different issues on different vehicles, but something to lean on... they may eventually issue a TSB for camaro paint chips... it just won't be in the first few model years. The fix for the TBSS ended up being a rocker panel repaint and application of clear bra film... I took advantage of the repaint around 12,000 miles but the clear bra stuff looked terrible so I just had them leave it off... the TSB could only be performed once per vin anyways so they didn't care. For reference:

I have quite a few on my front bumper and a couple on my hood.. i dont think its all that big of a deal and theres no way in hell i would spend money on a clear bra.
My opinion.. the clear coat is too thin.. and water based paint sucks. you can thank the hippies. i had an old '92 buick, original paint, 230,000 miles and only 2 paint chips. |

You might want to check with a local expert paint shop to have the problem areas have additional clear coat put on. I had my vinyl stripes taken off, black base stripes applied with a dark sapphire pearl over top, front to rear, including 3 coats of clear on the whole front fascia for $950. Just a thought.
