Change what tune, I always liked the kit but on stockers its not needed
Even a 2600 to 2800 stall it might not be needed..

Weekend stripper then for sure I would add one

well, you don't get the heat we do down here in Texas. yesterday it was over 100 outside and my trans temp was around 200 or more going 75 down the highway. no aftermarket stall or anything; just headers, exhaust, intake, tune! i'm sure it can reach 220+ in stop and go traffic with the summer heat.

this is definitely a must if you live in a hot climate like in the south. i'd like to keep my temps below 200 at all times, so i will be getting one of these soon!

the parts look OEM, and i bet if you took it into the dealer and showed it to some of their mechanics, they wouldn't know it was aftermarket! nicely done ADM!

Its 98 degree's here and its been that way for 3 weeks
Phila,Pa is insane and humid

My trans runs at 180 to 200 but it cant hurt to add one if your over 200 even with a stock vertered car...

Its all good and its a nice piece..
ADM should be proud of there kit, its very nicely package

So are you gonna take back it off come Oct. when the temps will drop back to 50-60's?

There is a happy medium, I do agree too cold is just as bad
It wouldnt be too hard to dis-connect it IF the temps got too cold but again most stockers with boltons wont need this mod....

Put a 3200 stall in it and it wouldnt be a bad idea

those temps will not be an issue,, you really cant over cool an auto trans,,

it's not like the trans cooler is a refrigerator, although that would be cool

there is a exponential curve of trans temp vs. cooling rate... meaning, if the temp of the trans oil is around 220, and the cooler cooled it 20 degrees to 200, then there is not a linear relationship if the trans oil was 180, the cooler would not cool it 20 degrees as well down to 160, it would be more like 10-15 degrees... you get diminishing cooling effects the closer the trans oil is to the ambient temp outside

yeah i dusted off my thermodynamics book to make that analysis!

I think it's widely known that ADM makes great products and I'm sure their trans cooler works very well. I wanted to purchase one but I have a heat exchanger in front of my radiator and this kit would put another barrier in front of my other two cooling systems.

I'm also not sure I need one. I admit I'm a little confused on something.

When I looked at the trans temps/life expectancy chart earlier on in the thread it shows that once you get over 220* F your trans is probably not going to live longer than 20,000 miles. I assume that prediction is based on a trans that is very regularly seeing 220* + temps.

My car is a daily driver. I like to drive hard and enjoy low-moderate boost but I live in an area that consistently sees 110* + temps, sometimes 115*. When the temp is hot like this, I drive very conservatively and only occassionly step on the gas hard for brief moments.

I'm not sure how my trans would be at any greater of a risk than what GM factored into their design of the trans for this car. I'm sure they were aware of potential purchasers who lived in desert climates.

So back to the chart. If some C5 owners (especially L99 owners) are seeing 200* F + temps on their guages, then according to the chart on the first page of this thread, those cars' trans have a less than 50,000 mile life expectancy.

I just don't see how GM wouldn't have factored in the likelihood of these 200* F + temps when they built the cars and warrantied them for 100,000 miles. (Keep in mind, I'm premising my opinion on my driving habits in the hot summer which I feel do not stress my trans more than a stock A6 would, even though I have a blower, exhaust headers.)

Edit: I just wanted to add that I am still open to the idea of getting one of these units from ADM if I feel it need it. Does anyone know if you can mount the cooler more to the side in the bumper area, so it's not directly in front of the heat exchanger?

YES U CAN OVERCOOL A TRANS...
THIS IS BAD INFO

FLUIDS NEED TO BE A CERTAIN TEMPS FOR VERTER LOCKUP TO PERFORM PROPERLY...
THESE NEWER CARS READ ALOT OF DATA AND MAKE CHANGES ACCORDINGLY...

ASK ANY RACER ABOUT RUNNING THERE CAR ON STANDS TO WARM UP A REAR OR GETTING ENGINE OIL UP TO TEMP...

FLUIDS NEED TO BE AT PROPER TEMP, OVERTEMP IS BAD
200 is not overtemp for a trans...Nuff said, do as u wish

When I drove to ADM to have my LS3 conversion done it was 86 outside that morning and with longtubes/exhaust , CAI and a Tune my car was at the temp of 200 degree's driving about 75mph.

When it was 100 outside and driving 75 down the highway she was above 200 and at times that scared me.

Now with a Ls3 , Cam and ETC with the ADM trans cooler it can be 104 and I can drive 75 and she doesnt even get to 180 degree's.
Now if its 104 and I drive 80+mph the warmest she gets is 180 degrees

I no longer see 200

Despite everything Andy at ADM has put in my car besides the ADM Race CAI the best mod I did was my trans cooler.

Andy is about to put a 3200 stall into my car in the next week or so. I will let yall know what the temps of my car are after the install.

keep in mind right now we are at the peak Heat of our summer so it should be interesting.
