Saw these forged pistons on ebay and thought I would share since it seemed like a good deal and I'm not ready to tear into mine yet.

That's interesting, seems like a good price but not sure they would fit the rods I'll be using or not. But I'm definitely going to check into it! Thanks for the lead.

That's a great deal, but they will not work with stock rods. The pin diameter is wrong, too small. Stock pin diameter is .9448-.9449, it says .708 on his paperwork and the description.

Ok I contacted the eBay seller and he went and measured the pins and they are indeed .708". It's strange that someone would be selling pistons for the lfx. There's probably only a handful of people that would even want forged pistons for this motor. Maybe they were custom made for a build that went south?

So, after going back and looking at some of my notes, and comparing the LF3 and LFX piston, and looking at the ebay pistons, it LOOKS like those are probably a failed/abort mission stroker (or long rod motor) pistons based on the compression height.

They probably went with a smaller pin to put the compression height up much more than they could with the stock pin size. You can see pretty clearly the top of the pin is almost to the top of the oiling ring. Compare with LFX piston (Left) and LF3 piston(Right) below with the ebay pictures. LFX compression height measured appx 1.200", while the LF3 compression height measures 1.260" (The LF3 rods are .06" shorter than LFX rods, this gave them room to increase the upper compression ring thickness, and the oil ring thickness while also moving the ring lands down for a more "boost friendly" piston on the LF3)...

Mathwise, the ebay pistons were most likely built for someone that was planning on building a 3.9L stroker. I'd guess the person the pistons were originally spec'ed for lost steam when they found out how much the crank was going to cost to be made, plus the cost of custom rods, and now the pistons are on ebay. If the seller didn't spec them for a customer, they probably picked them up on some kind of Wiseco blow out because no one wanted them. They are pretty much useless to anyone that doesn't have deep pockets and is dead set on building a stroker. I REALLY hope someone does their research before buying them.

No thanks lol, I'll leave the cam testing up to you guys. I'm going to have enough on my plate the way it is. Plus I just don't see a lot of gains to be made from the cams themselves. MagnumForce has shown that a lot can be done with cam timing in the tune. And Gretchen was making like 650whp and 7XXwtq with factory cams.

So, did you pick a year for your replacement motor and order it?

I'm probably going to go with a '15 engine but I haven't ordered one yet. Best I've found so far is $1500 for one with 7k miles. They have 2 motors with less than 10 miles on them but want $2,000 for them. I'm holding out for a better deal. Plus I don't really need it yet anyway, I need to get with wiseco and get the ball rolling on these pistons. I'll wait until I have rods and pistons in hand to order the motor that way it's not just sittin around.
