On a serious note are you planning to add forged internals to the engine so it can handle the boost you have on the car from now on ? Or removing the turbos entirely ?
Forged internals are the plan, factory crank is already forged so just needs rods and pistons. Turbos are here to stay!

I would love to get the new v-band clamps and larger swingvalves as well

Haven't heard much from you, how are you liking the turbos?

Turbos are absolutely amazing... I beat a c7 multiple times in a row. Did notice that the braided hose from the scavenge pump to valve cover is leaking but it's not that bad just a small mist. I contacted Fabberge to get the hose covered under warranty. I'm trying to go to a 1320 meet tomorrow night.

Nice, yeah these things are beasts on the highway! I get a lot of 5.0 mustangs that want to play and do little highway pulls just to pick on my little RS. I love it.

How much boost did you have it on ? 9lbs or 10lbs ????
I thought the LFX engine could handle between 12lbs to 15lbs of boost.
Was there anything else that could have added stress to the pistons and rods ??

Around 14-15lbs probably. The piston broke right at the oiling ring. I don't know if it was from excessive cylinder pressure or just a weakened piston. I had an injector failure when I first put the turbo kit on(5000 miles ago) it was stuck open and there was a lot of fuel in the cylinder. The piston that failed was in the same cylinder. So it's possible it tried to hydrolock then, just enough to weaken the piston? There were no signs of detonation and usually when these pistons break from too much boost its the top ringland not at the bottom oiling ring. It's hard to say.

Just some thoughts, hope you find them helpful in your quest.

From your pretty thorough tear down it appears that you weren't getting enough oil on the pistons, rings or cylinder walls. Remove the catch can and let the oil vapor help out from above. Spray a small bit of seafoam during each oil change to clean up the valves instead. Boost increases cylinder pressure and more pressure is more heat and more heat is more expansion and more expansion is above tolerance... kaboom. That's the reason the LF3 & LF4 have oil squirters cast into the block.

If you want to be the LFX boost champ, you should look into tapping the oil galleries to install oil squirters. Or maybe the LF3 short block can be configured with your existing heads and new internals. I don't know if the oil channels line up between the LFX and LF3 heads, but it is very likely they do.

The LFX just doesn't have the oil flow or oil pressure to keep any pistons/rings/rods happy above 10-12lbs of boost. Even if you forged them and thermal coated them, you still need lube along the interface.

Good luck in your rebuild.

Is it crazy expensive to get oil squirters installed?

All LLT's and LFX's have oil squirters from the factory. They spray oil on the bottoms of the pistons and on the cylinder walls. That's always been a cool feature of these engines. And I don't think oil in the combustion chamber is a good thing. I want to keep the oil out!
