How did this thread get so far down on the list????

Just read a thread about how CARB is trying to outlaw Ford's Trackey concept. I don't like that gimmick on the Mustang....and I hate CARB more than anything I can think of at the moment for being so friggin' stupid like this...but could I quietly consider this a tiny "win" for the ZL1?

Poked around this and a 2SS/RS 45th today.

Honestly...I would get the stripes painted on.

CFM on the other hand...easily the sexiest grayish-blackish color ever.

I wonder if the dealers are going to have to take the car back from anyone who already purchased a boss?

Oddly enough that is a great description of the color....

Now that a little more ZL1 info has been released, it's not the same without Number 3 neihter confirming or denying the information.

No. They just can't release the "Trackeys" until the dispute is settled...

When I read the Autoblog report about the Track Keys last week, I LOL'd SO loud. It's cool for a factory car, but not much else...

As a Boss customer (if I was), I would want what Ford promised me. If they cant fulfill their promise do to outside intervention there needs to be some sort of recourse.

Don't get me wrong. The situation is STUPID, and I hate everything about CARB, however, I completely agree with you. And, like you said, I would want what Ford promised me. I don't have a problem with CARB in this situation because if Ford tried to get around them by offering this key, that's just crap, because everyone else has to follow the rules, as crappy as they can be. This is just anothing little chink in the armor of that car. Like I said - it's a race car. If you can't drive it on the street (that splitter isn't legal to drive on the street, either, on the LS model), it ain't a street car. Comparing a racecar to a street car (like the M3) is not a fair comparison. My biggest complaint about that car is just that. Anyhoo...

How about some more news, GM, for our Bud 'Mac?

.

I didn't even know some splitters were illegal. That would only be for aerodynamic function, right?

We have way-the-HECK too many rules to follow these days. Before you know it we'll only be allowed to walk & they will levy a sidewalk tax on shoes.

Why is the splitter illegal, Radz?

I don't think that CARB is all evil, especially if one recalls how bad the smog was in the L.A. basin in the 1960s. The air quality is much better today, in part, because of CARB's regulation.

Exactly. Ford was well aware of the CARB rules and regulations when they developed the Boss 302. Ford should have tuned the vehicle so that an add on key was not required.

Chalk one up for the ZL1.

I read that LS splitter is illegal. I'm not sure exactly why, but I remember reading that disclaimer somewhere; probably at Ford's website or one of those feature exhibits you see when they display the car. Maybe it's how low it hangs, or how far it jutts out

I believe this is true. However, they go over-board, I think. While I can appreciate needing clean air, some of the things they do just drive me crazy. Maybe I can't see the big picture or maybe there's something I'm not considering, but I just don't trust them to tell me what's okay. I mean, I can't run a CAI, with all functioning evap' equipment because it just doesn't have one of their exemption numbers, even though I haven't fundamentally changed any part of the system (I literally just went through something like this). It's just crazy. I'm on the fence with long tubes and cats', but I can see that point a little bit.

There are other parts of our regulating agencies, too, that just pizz me off. I can't buy a polish chromed Desert Eagle .44 just because it hasn't been approved, even though I CAN get a brushed chrome Desert Eagle .44. I can get a .500 SW Mag' but can't get a .50AE Desert Eagle. It's just so random. More of CARB's regulations make a little more sense, but I feel like I gotta' ask them to take a leak.

Sorry I got off track, lol

EXACTLY!!! For the what, 4 more horsepower, that key releases, it doesn't seem that worth it. They should modify the tune so the motor tune doesn't change, but the rest of the changes take place, IMO. I knew I soon as I learned the key makes the car lope more that CARB would say something about it. If the car lopes more because they're changing cam timing, that means emissions changes, and gets dirtier because I'm sure that duration and LSA have moved a lot more aggressive. I am surprised it's only 4 horse'...
