Why do you keep saying that a 2LT cost 34 and 35k???

Did you lose money in the first purchase? Like roll a remaining balance of a previous loan in there?

I'm just curious.

A 2LT just doesn't cost even NEAR that.....

At the end of the day you are stuck with what GM gives you... If you get a new Motor all is well. If not ... Drive the Rebuilt Motor like you wan a new one.

My opinion, take the repair but since this is nearly a complete engine overhaul, tell them you want the drive train warranty to start over. If they are so sure of the rebuild, they shouldn't have a problem with this. Any rebuild is risky, but let them do it, just make sure you are very particular on the balance and the performance after they are finished.

I'll tell you this, I hear the slightest noise, my car is in the shop the same day. Never wait until it gets worse. No problems with my 2SS so far, just a minor paint problem they fixed yesterday.

I am not sure a drill with a wire wheel will be sufficient enough to clean up the block. I would make sure they bring it to a machine shop and have the block completely gone through.

Are they not going to give you a good trade in because of this problem? They claim it will be good as new. With that reasoning, they should give you above blue book because the engine is like new

I hope you get this resolved soon so you cna be back on the road with the Camaro.

Good Luck,

ED

Thanks to everyone for your comments and moral support, it really means a lot to me! I feel like I have a crew of buddies in back of me when I am standing at that service counter! I have an appointment to sit with the service manager today, I also have the parts list for the rebuild, I will scan and post it for all to see and get your comments. More soon, eB

I feel you pain. It sucks that in the end your going to get what they give you.
I remember when I bought a 2000 Eclipse GT. After 2 weeks I started to hear a tap. I called the deal and they said they were sure it wasn't the motor that there was just something loose. They pushed me off for 4 days. By the time they looked at it the motor was just about shot. They said they would replace it in a few days. Told me to drive it till the new motor came in. On the way to drop it back off it threw a rod while driving on the highway. They had to come and tow it in. The did replace the motor but I felt like they should have replaced the car. I fought my a** off with them. In the end I got a new motor and stuck with the car. They told me if I traded it in I would loose 8k on the car. So I kept the car for a few years and traded it in. I was still upset for them 2 years that they replaced the motor in my brand new car. I hope it all works out for you. Good Luck!

The car was bought in Canada, where they cost more than in the States.

Looks to me like the crank was hitting the main bearing journals too... These engines are not assembly balanced. It is important that the pistons go back in the same holes though. If they don't redo everything.... If they redo all the bearings and rings, it should be OK if the pistons get mixed up cause they should mic everything out during the assembly. All the rotating parts have to weigh the same so, balance shouldn't be an issue.

Beauwulf, this is my biggest concern. It just won't be the same after the rebuild. They may have it back together by the end of the week, I will post results of thier efforts and tell you guys if I trade it in against an SS or not.

tks all!
