I think we missed Vol or episode # 5?
Anyway....
We all have been pretty vocal about the colors..
I do too STILL agree that they should at least a "one off" for ZL1 much like the synergy series and limit it to ONLY ZL1. While I will not wait for hell to freeze over for that to happen ill order a factory color and reserve my ideas for a custom paint job for later.
Scarrzz, do you plan on painting your ZL1 dusk blue? Are you going to do the work yourself or any of the prep work?

...not really...LOL 68 RS,...looks to me like at least two beaten horses were never assigned a number.... it's all good as they say. I agree it would be nice if there was at least one unique color assigned to the ZL1 like the 45th had for example. Then, that would give us all one more thing to complain about after the release...

You DO know that I hate saying "No" - -right?

It truly bothers me as we try to embrace all that you wish and want and hope for - but unfortunately that's simply impossible to deliver upon sometimes - no matter how hard we try.......

A couple of things:

1969 was a long time ago - what we were able to do back then is a lot different than what we can do today. Yes -we could do special paint back then - but trust me when I say the quality back then was substantially less than what it is today........

If the Camaro were built in its own plant - there might be an opportunity to build more colors....the reality is that we share a paint shop/body shop with Impala, Equinox, and Regal. Thus, our color/trim people have quite an interesting job when it comes to the fistfights we have on what colors will go into the pallette......

Someone said (I think it was GoldenBear) that the costs to do special paints is exorbitant - and he's right......I can tell you that some Chevrolet dealers (Berger and Tom Henry to name two....and I suspect Rodgers as well....) will paint a new Camaro any color you want it painted - but there's a cost to do so.......

The reality is that if I asked each of you to give me a 10-color pallette - we'd find that opinions are STILL all over the place - and we'd still have people upset that we don't offer "Palomino Ivory"......

(......and for those who ask "what's palomino ivory........take a guess........)

Anywhoo - suffice it to say that we'll have some different colors in the palette going forward - but for everyone we add, another has to come out.......

Now - let me go find something else to say "NO!" to!

It will be Dusk Blue in a few years, but the Black, IBM, or Ashen Gray will be awesome until then...

...just not perfect.

No, I won't be doing the paint myself when it comes to that, I want a better job than I could manage.

Here's a nice example of 1968's Palomino Ivory.

I wouldn't complain. Even if it were to be a color I would not buy.....

well.............................................. ............................

LOL!

I have been pretty vocal about a one off from the get go.
Also...not one of the colors mentioned this thread is really "Custom."
They are only custom if you apply them to your car.
Every color that has been mentioned in all the threads all the way from
the first gen colors, to discontinued colors, to other manf colors (the big three and imports too)(ABM, RJT etc) can still be bought from any PPG paint supply and the like. GM could still use these same colors they have been using for eons and do what they always do.. Simply rename them!
As far as the OP the colors are "OK"
that does not mean that I am 150% happy about them. Maybe 95.5% is more like it.. But I think on a $50k to $60k color car you should have at least a few more options on color. GM would not even have to "develop' a new color. Simply go back and pick one or two out of the archives, rename it and see what happens. On the new 2012 colors we have 3 variants of Red. I think the reds are covered.
We have one Interim of Blue, IBM. That means GM "could" pull a blue out of the archives or a color used on another line of chevy... ABM, Dusk Blue, Sonic Blue, Lemans, Bright Blue Metallic, Mystic Teal Poly, Bermuda Blue....
and so forth....
We have one White... why not a flat white? Those flat whites look stellar don't they in the other post? Flat white, maybe even a pearl white....
We have Silver Ice.... well for the grays and silver we have CGM (pull it and use it) Ashen Gray...and SIM.... That should about do it for the grays as there is only so much you can do with a shade...and not actual color...
Yellow...Now theres one.. Why not sunrise gold? Metallic Gold Poly? (made that one up) make a yellow with some flake in it with maybe a hinge of green or something in it.. Is there anything in GM's archives in the last 30 years to keep them from making another Gold? I recall plenty... No greens...
How about at least one Green? A British Racing Green from the first gens?
Synergy Green.. Pull it out for Zl1... Green Gold Metallic from the 4th gens...
Pull it out and use it... Bowling Green Metallic anyone?

That ought to at least give us some primary colors that are "missing" from the palette so to speak...even if they are in a shade we don't care for.
Right fellas and gals?

well the father spoke before I could type the above..
Hes right the paint itself is different than in years past...
I guess some of these old ones would have to be re developed so to speak before they could be used...
O well.. we tried..

Perfectly understandable, prudent, and logical, Fbodfather.

I don't think anyone here was lamenting too much, just talking it over.

OK, maybe begging for Metallic Dusk Blue a bit, because I am so in love with how a ZL1 will look in that color.

But don't for one nanosecond believe that we feel disappointed at all, because that is NOT the case. Heck, if all ZL1s were only red or black I think we would still be ecstatic. I know I would.

So don't worry about it, Sir. We're here to enjoy the ride.

I guess in some ways he's saying "it's time to grow up"? Nah... maybe "get with the program"..... We know one thing, they are listening and what more could we ask for? I'm happy and appreciate the opportunity for input like this.

I'm clinically obsessed with the program. Maybe that's what's wrong with me.

Yeah, definitely with the program here.

Edit: ...and you're danged straight it's great to have input & feedback.

(Shut up OldScool, before you say, "Among other things" after highlighting "what's wrong with me.")

I know you would too. .

[QUOTE=MY68RS;3898908....GM would not even have to "develop' a new color. Simply go back and pick one or two out of the archives, rename it and see what happens..........[/QUOTE]

actually, no -- it's not quite that simple.

Good example: We dropped Sebring Silver for the 2001 model year - and brought it back for 2002 -- and we could not build Camaros or Firebirds in the color for a few weeks when we brought it back into the pallette - because we had a hard time with paint matches.......

So - when you bring a color 'back' after any length of time, you DO have development work - Further, if you brought back, say, Palomino Ivory (and we're not, by the way) - you would have to completely re-develop it because you're going from an Acrylic Laquer on all-steel to High Solids Water-borne base-coat/clear coat paint that will cover steel, aluminum, R.I.M. and other such surfaces...........$$$$$$$$!!!!

See-- there usually is a good reason why we don't do something.......
