Not necessarily. Could be that the times/mph's are on the optimistic side when not on a real track. And I have always had WAY better success launching on the street than at the track, unless the track is FULLY prepped.

Every car that has seen a REAL track has trapped 107-108. It's still a small sample of 3-4 cars, but still...

Horsepower isn't everything. It is vital, but it isn't the only vital characteristic of a car's performance. You can't tell how healthy a person is just by taking that person's temperature. The same is true of a car. You can't tell its true performance characteristics based purely on its measure of horsepower.

Also worth mentioning, the traction additive which helps you hook up on a strip can exacerbate wheel hop issues in cars which are prone to them. And some tracks use a lot of the stuff, last time I was at Bowling Green I nearly walked out of my shoes.

on an average track on an average day, it seems the Camaro will probably be a 13.5 car @ 107-108.

It's not bad, the 05-09 Mustangs are probably on average at about 13.9's @ 100-102 while the GT500's are usually in the 12.9's @ 114 or so. I'm talking about AVERAGE days, AVERAGE tracks.


I was really surprised the OP ran 104's in the stock G8 GT though. Most I've seen run 14.0's @ 99-101 mph. That's what stumped me the most.

No average track here. Tucson has an NHRA correction factor listed on their site.
Saturday night in July/August at 9 PM it will be 105 degrees F, 4% humidity, 3075 feet track altitude and and 8 knot crosswind.

more important than temp is the DA.

either way, your right. Not your average track there lol I like tucson, i use to go there about 4-5 times a year (family). I like the weather there MUCH more than Florida, that's for sure!

Oh please, we're talking about one car here, ONE. This is, after all, the same car that produced Hennessey's disappointing times. If this is a mid-13 second car in the real world then it represents an overestimation of manufacturer's claimed performance on par with the '99 Cobra fiasco. Given GM's recent history of fairly conservative performance estimates, I will need to see mediocre performance from a lot more than ONE car before making such claims, especially since all the major rags reported the car ran 13.0@110.

Quite a few mid-13's were repoted by the first group of '03 Cobra owners too.

The "rags" all use GPS equiptment rather than a real track. keep up.

It's funny how if someone tested the Camaro and it ran 12.90's people would say wow finally a good driver behind the wheel... When if there were 2 or 3 people only getting mid 13's then they are bad drivers. Maybe its just a mid to low 13 second car ? Though i hope its really a high 12 to low 13 second car in decent conditions.

Any other Houston or San Antonio area 2010 Camaro owners want to show up at this track and have a little 100% stock shootout? I can probably arrange some free track time. The only rule? Your car must be 100% showroom stock, including tires. That will get us plenty of track results in a single day, on the same track.

Anyone willing to step up and drive their Camaro to the limit? Post up.

I would love to if my camaro was here and you were not 2000 miles away I will be getting a chance to run mine stock in June at a track rental(if its here). It will be 100% stock at a "slow" track in the area. Where at that time of year the DA is usually in the 3500 + range. I will report in and let everybody know. DA (weather conditions) play a huge role on the track. thanks for the test.
