And as far as tightening it down.....maybe I could actually use the head of a bolt and tighten two opposing nuts on the threads and use that?!?!?!? Just trying to be creative!!!
Good question on the o-ring. Beats me. If GM didn't ask for it, I wouldn't use it.

Now that you mention it, maybe the sealant tape was there to begin with. I don't remember - it was last year. The pic looks good, though. Plus once it is in, you can tell if it is leaking by getting under there after a few days and looking for coolant drips right at the base of the bolt.

FYI: If there ARE coolant drips there already BEFORE you take the existing fitting off, DON'T DO IT. There was a problem for a while on the assembly line where someone cross-threaded a bunch of these, and they may need to be tapped out. There's a thread on this with my name on it if you are interested, search for it. In a worst case scenario it is possible that something that was cross-threaded might necessitate a new block (!!) and apparently that has happened before, according to other posts on this site. So check first for red drips before you touch anything. If there are red drips, you can find the recall notice online or I can help you.

Thanks for the heads-up. I do have a small coolant leak under there somewhere, which is one of the reasons I wanted to delete this whole mess. But I need to get under there and see exactly where it is coming from. If it's coming from the block port adapter fitting....I'll be in touch with you!!!

If you ever take your car to the track or any other high performance situation, I wouldn't delete it.

In general I am still confused as to why people want to delete it, but then again I went the other way and put a big ass oil cooler on mine because I am supercharged and do track my car.

Well, I am NOT supercharged, and don't plan to be. But I do drag race occasionally, and I am also moving to Florida soon (pretty drastic climate change). But never been on an auto-cross or road course track, and don't really plan to ever do that either. From what I've been told, these factory oil coolers are pretty much a "joke", and are nothing more than glorified "coolant heaters" anyway!!! I would probably consider adding an aftermarket oil cooler if I knew it would actually add some sort of value to the performance of my car. But from everything I've been told, external oil coolers are really not needed on pretty much any "LS" engine......unless there are situations of sustained high RPM's.....like autocross or road course racing.

If you disagree or think I am off-base on this, please let me know!!! I certainly don't want to do something that could possibly cause irrepairable damage to my engine!!! My warranty is already toast.....so even if I have a possibly cross-threaded coolant fitting in the block....there's not much that the dealership is going to do to help me out without charging me a fortune!!!

... Because my stock one cracked and I had to pay $225 for a tow.

If you do an aftermarket cooler and have it mounted so it can cool off, then it would good for road racing.

But for drag racing, we only make a 9-12 second pass so a cooler relying on air to cool it off won't do anything.

I'm told the 08-13 LS3 C6's don't have oil coolers but have not checked one in person.

But are those dry sump, or is that only on the LS7's and LS9's???? I would guess (don't know) that the LS9's, being S/C, would probably have an external cooler of some kind.

So I am definitely not the most knowledgeable guy here. Others have much better mechanical skill and smarts. The OEM setup seems to average out the oil and coolant temps by passing them over each other. Maybe that is not necessary in typical driving, meaning maybe the rad can cool the engine just fine with only the coolant loop. In my situation I have a blower and go to the track and saw high engine temps. So I wanted even more cooling, and it works great. But sounds like a very different situation than yours.

I'd like to understand what the basic C6 has for oil cooling.
