They must have changed something on the 2012s because mine shows about 54% at 4,000 miles. I usually change mine at 50%.

I will turn over 133,000 today. The chains do not last as long as the engine. Good news, most can do this themselves

I can understand a car that has 100K plus miles on it for the timing chain(s) to be worn out (not that I'm going against the grain there...), but a car with only 14K miles? That sounds like a definite defect to me. I wonder what percentage of low mileage cars have this defect?

Not saying there isn't some sort of a design flaw in the engine, but after talking with some master mechanics of whom I'd consider to be pretty damn knowledgeable....change that oil every 3 - 4,000 miles. Just do it. I always have anyways and plan to keep my car on the same schedule, and hopefully that will be the trick to keeping my engine healthy for a very long time. But hearing it from them makes me feel a bit better.
They said the engine is a great powerplant, but it will gunk up otherwise, which of course increases the risk of other problems.

I'm going with design flaw, along with low oil, as to the cause of this. My engine was clean.

What the hail is going on with these engines?? Sounds like the annoying GM intake gasket failure equivalent.

How hard is it to change the timing chain yourself?
