We could make a prototype board (no silkscreen or solder mask), or, one with both of those. The first one would be pretty low-cost. I'll run the numbers, but, it's all based on quantity. I'm thinking only 10 or 25 would be appropriate.

How many boards are needed? 4 or 2? Does the $10 to $20 include a full kit, or is that per board? I would think at least 2, 1 for each side? I would think that anything under $30 shipped for a complete kit would be fair. That is just basing it on the $20 parts cost.

Two boards would be required. I have not mentioned a price yet.

The boards would definitely be the highest-cost items as they would be custom and low-volume.

Yeah sorry i saw the 10 -25 and thought it was price but then re-read and noticed that was quantity. Thank for the clarification on how many boards are needed.

so here is the block diagram for use with a MOSFET/TRANSISTOR. i got it from the same website as the OP. the only issue i've had so far is finding a P-type MOSFET. i've gotten the circuit to work with a small PNP type transistor but have yet to find one that can carry the AMP's required by the bulbs. 90% of everything at radio shack is NPN or N type which is backward of the way the light is supposed to work. IE: it comes on first and then shuts off after the time out. still working on it. if anybody has suggestions, im open...

OK for us who can't see it - what shows you it might have to heat sink it?

It has to do with power dissipation. This part will handle 5 Amps, but only with proper heat dissipation. I am kind of interested in doing this to my car also but need to find the time.

I think the relay will work also, you just need to add a transistor to the output of the 555.

Let me give it some thought and calculations and I will get back with you guys.

how about a relay with a coil current rated at 30mA which is under the 200mA output of the 555 timer. not sure what relay the OP used which may have had a coil draw over the rated output of the 555.
