I'd think that people who currently own stick-shift cars would still be entitled to respond if at any time in their past they'd bought at least one car with an automatic.

I've owned a few automatics, though they're a ways back in the past. Didn't regret or even think twice about getting any of them. Take that as a "no regrets" response - that might not have been expected.

What's happened since is irrelevant, other than we've still not regretted buying any of the cars we have now or have had.

Like was said earlier, make your transmission choice based on your best reasons for you. If you don't choose out of blind habit, impatience, peer pressure, or some poll telling you what other people think you should have, you'll be far less likely to end up with regrets. Sorry to hear of a couple of folks who didn't see their own preference clearly enough to overcome the external influences.

You cannot judge the 5th gen Camaro's automatic from driving other cars with automatics. I have and they really are not comparable... I can understand those that had an automatic 5th gen Camaro that traded for a manual saying yes they regretted it but if you haven't owned a 5th gen Camaro automatic you don't really have a dog in this hunt...

Talking

When I first got the car I said to myself this is gonna be my DD and I live in a big city so I'll get the auto. Weeks pass and I realized there's no way I'm gonna let her go through winter, so she became a weekend warrior. After a while I got bummed out that I got the auto but then when I looked outside the box I realized that hey I still have to deal with traffic no matter what. When I wanna play around and feel the gears shift I just engage the paddles and have a blast. I can honestly say yea It bugs me when people come up and say "you should have got the manual'' and then I start believing it but in reality when I sit in my car I truly love what I have and the idea of being able to choose from paddle shifters and auto is just amazing. At this point no regrets...

I have a 2010 A6 1LT and at times I have regretted having an automatic. Like when I want to drive fast or go through all of the gears. The paddle shifters are cool. But they aren't that cool. Although sometimes I am very thankful I have a automatic. Like when I'm up at 4:30 in the morning and can barely press the gas pedal and brake let alone find a clutch and find the gears. Or when I am in a hurry and need to eat something. Yes I eat in my car please don't say anything about it. I would love a manual for weekends. But in MY opinion daily driving might get a bit annoying.

Yep. I traded my SS Manual for a Sonic LTZ Automatic.

Definately regret that.

I normally don't get involved in these threads but just for kicks. I have no regrets in getting an auto. I have been in the auto industry my whole life and have driven more manuals than you can imagine, from foreign sports cars to good ol' American muscle cars, Gm's Ford's and Chrysler's and although they were and still are a blast I love my Camaro with it's auto, at this point in my life and for my own reasons I can honestly say" I WOULD HAVE REGRETED GETTING A MANUAL"

I never tried the automatic / paddle shifts but would love to take one for a spin one day. Manual is lots of fun but a pain when you're stuck in traffic. Still prefer manual anyway.

They don't have to be comparable once a "no regrets" position has been established - can't get any further away from having regrets than by having none. And to think that you're getting that kind of admission out of somebody like me . . . ought to count for more, not less.

If anything, had the current 6L50/6L80 been available back in my AT days, it would have made for an even stronger opinion for "no regrets", guaranteed. (But the answer to the topic question would have still been the same.)

Now if I'd actually expressed regrets about having owned any of those cars, with ATs clearly inferior to today's, you'd have a solid point. And I would have stuck to the implied sub-topic of how those two guys ended up with regrets and what they perhaps should have done to avoid them. Somebody might still benefit.

If I drove my car everyday I would have bought an auto, but I don't. Both my DD, and the wife's DD are autos. They can't be beat for comfort and ease of driving. ( You can drink your coffee on the way to work.) My camaro is a toy I didn't buy it for comfort, or ease of driving. I bought it to go fast and have fun. Everyone has a need buy what fits your need.

No regrets here - have SS w/ stick ordered...
For the second car, I really wanted manual. Not so fun if in stop & go traffic, but I am seldom in that situation anymore.
