WINNER!!!!!!!!!

I'm sure there's plenty of common sense respectful drivers out on the roads, but I'm seeing on a daily basis a majority of disrespectful POS's that don't have a clue what flashing lights and sirens, red STOP lights, cars broken down on small shoulders means and it's instant at killing a good mood!!

Ditto!!! It's just common courtesy.

Having been to all but 4 states and driving in those states, in private vehicles and as a CDL driver, I make it a habit to slow down and to move over when possible. Sometimes people just pop out from behind vehicles and become targets. These are targets I prefer to miss.

March was awareness month for this law in AZ. This state also does not specify how much you must slow down if you can't/don't move over. Pretty hard to enforce that way, I would think, provided the driver could say moving over was impossible.

I also noticed truckers doing this when I was young(er), so I've always done the same. Few others seem to, however.

Thanks for posting this. As an EMT, there's nothing scarier on the highway than that pulling sensation you get when an 18 wheeler flies by only two feet away from you. Feels like it's going to pull you right into the roadway. Move over, stay clear, and if you're so intent on seeing what we're doing, stop in for a job application.

You can continue to read, and read, and read, and read about these situations. Pretty much 1 officer is killed during a traffic stop every 15 days.

It is sad that common sense things like this have to be made into a law. Seems like something you should just instinctively do, like pausing to prop a door open long enough for a stranger a few steps behind you to get there rather than letting it slam shut in their face.

It is absolutely amazing how many folks are on the roads with us who have not a clue about the laws or any common sense. Another one that kills me is folks who drive in the rain without their lights on. In Tennessee it is the law but you sure cannot tell it is on a rainy day. And of course no one slows down. Yeah, I suspect in most cases here we are preaching to the choir (at least I hope so) but somebody needs to preach this particular sermon more widely.

that's what we do... i ride a truck company and we get called out just to block the interstate while the other crews are working. put cones out 200 feet before you get to us then the truck blocks 2 lanes 200 feet from the wreck..and STILL the rubber neckers almost hit us....let's see you didn't see the cones and the 37 foot long 12 foot high, strobe light every where fire truck because you where messing with your damn phone....guess that texts message was more important then some police and firefights lives...sorry i am back off my soapbox now

Speaking of common sense... Years ago, I had a C5 Corvette and a police officer FLEW up behind me and turned on the sirens. Where he turned them on, there was no safe shoulder to pull over to - we both would have been literally sitting on a highway had I stopped right there. So, I immediately slowed down and put on my turn signal, indicating that I was following his order. About an 1/8th mile down, there was a safe place to pull off the highway and I did. The police officer then did a "Dukes of Hazzard" move and threw his car sideways in front of me, as though he was trying to keep me from going any farther (I was already stopped).

He then approached me as though I was a criminal and told me to put my hands where I could see them and asked why I was trying to "run away" from him. Honestly, I felt like saying, "If I had tried, I would have gotten away from you". Instead - I told him that I slowed down, put on my turn signal and pulled over literally an 1/8th mile later where it was safe to actually pull over for BOTH of us.

The guy then searched my car for drugs and asked me if I'd take a breathalyzer. I told him that unless he had somethign to charge me with, I wasn't taking any tests. He hadn't clocked me and had nothing to charge me with. The only suspicion that he said he had was that another officer radio'd to him earlier that he saw a Corvette going fast so this guy pulled me over acting like I had just committed robbery. Even after I explained to him why I continued to drive an 1/8th mile with my turn signal on for both our safety, his response was, "The instant you see my lights, you pull over wherever you are".
