I had a similar incident back on 9/13/13 in Gainesville, stopped at a red light then boom. It looked like a dent in my bumper but the estimate was almost $3k.
I called my insurance company right after I got off the phone with the police to let them know what happened.
Luckily the lady had statefarm and they had the car repaired, but then they sent me a check for $80 to cover the loss of value to the car.
I am currently fighting that as I type this since the dealer that sold me the car wrote a statement that the value of the car went down $2500 due to the accident.
Thanks. I don't have the report number on me this moment, but it happened on Friday Dec 13th at about 4:30pm EST. Doraville Police Dept wrote the report. The office who wrote the ticket seemed very ..."cheerful" about the whole thing. Showed up, took IDs, came back and asked if she apologized. Obviously, she said yes, so he handed back our info with a smile and said "have a good day".

Now I know why you dont have a police report, DeKalb county is full of shootings and car jackings, you might not get it for another 2 weeks!

Oh boy, this keeps getting better and better...

I got a call yesterday about the damages done. The whole underside bumper and back panel will be replaced entirely - good. The absorber and underlying bumper have been damaged and will need to be repaired. The exhaust system has been damaged as well and will need to be replaced. Repairs are being done at Rick Hendrick Auto and they estimate I should be out by Monday-ish

Then I got a call from both my insurance and her insurance this morning. Turns out she gave a fake account number to the police and me for her insurance. She has been uninsured since Nov 2103. Now I have to pay the $500 deductible out of pocket and lose my Diminished Value Compensation. I might look into getting a lawyer, but that may be more expensive than what the benefits would reap.

So then I started asking myself why the police did not cite her for bad tags and no insurance. I called into Doraville PD and asked about my case, but they could not find it. I admit, I did not have the actual case number in front of me, but we searched by my name/date/etc... and they could not find it. I kinda want to talk to that officer and his superior now...

What a f***ing mess. Merry Christmas to me.

ummmmm your insurance should be able to go after her and sue her on your behalf. They should be able to go after her for the cost of the damage and repairs as well as your deductible. If she fails to pay the state could suspend her license.... don't ask me how I know all this (I can tell you this was NOT me)...

good luck my friend hang in there!

Well, will Progressive sue her personally, or will I have to find my own lawyer?

I think Progressive will go after her! you may have to bring it up to them.
lets just say they go after her and they will go after her hard.... she can lose her privilege to drive, possibly even permanently.

She did not say. She said cash and I got suspicious and called the cops. There is no way she could properly estimate the damages done. No way I was going ot risk it.

I asked this of my Allstate rep when something like this happened to my wife.

Their response was 'bring em on'.

no idea what they did, they fixed our car in record time and never bothered us again about it, that was maybe 10 years ago.

I would have told her 40,000 estimated damages!
