There is a ring on the back of this truck held on by 4 grade 10.9 M8 bolts. The sled weighs 50,000lb and is dragging in the dirt. I'm applying 800+ rwhp to it in Low Range 3rd.

EDIT - DOH!!

Ok, as you can see the drill bit in the sub bumper it's not far. But I will have to drill and add the nut at a 12deg angle because the front is nt parallel with the car, we want it to pull on the tow hook strait and not at a angle to bend it

You will not need bolts, what we will make is a simple receiver that you just slide in and a small screw will keep it in place, then just screw the tow hook into that, after just remove tow hook and close the little door. It's is going to be important to keep the tow hook in line with the car so the receiver will have the nut welded at a angle. The sub bumper is light gauge steel.

Mine is on....Again it is the rear of a 2013. I decided to trim some of the rear fascia plastic, but it is 100% hidden when the plate is installed and strap tucks in behind the plate. No, I will not let it flap in the wind on track.

Yes the rear is very easy to hook to. But being a 14 the back is different.

I was thrown off by the pictures brt posted on the first page (post #8) of the tow hook provision welded onto the back of a Camaro he saw at Summit. I thought that was on a Z/28, and I could see it looked just like behind my plate (knowing the fascias were different) .

After searching I found a pic of Ofers Z/28 on the trailer and can see the opening behind the plate is much smaller.

The steel bumper support is/should be the same for the 14 as previous model years, but I can see now that you would have to trim into the painted black area of the lower diffuser on the Z/28 to use my method. I tried to provide an option...

...I would think all you'd need is an L-bracket attached where you have the pictured strap attached....With an L-bracket you could use a strap, eye-bolt, etc. and make it any height desired for the license plate opening..

The only concern I had with a tab or L-bracket sticking up was what kind of gusset would be needed to support the force that could be applied to it.

If the car was just being pulled on a smooth surface I would have no concern with that design, however in my experiance the front hook is typically used at the track to tow disabled cars back to the pits. The rear hook/strap is typically used when something has gone wrong including going off track and burying the car in the sand, in the woods or even nosed into a pond (it happens at a local track on occasion). Overzealous track officials try to recover the car as quickly as possible and sometimes the recover requires a snatch (slack in rope and then a quick tug) to free the cars.

Looks like we can make a receiver for any tow ring, just need thread pitch and diameter. The tow ring here was ground down to thread at 1/2 inch because the threads that come on it are a very high pitch odd ball metric
The bar is also threaded.
