I'm pretty much in the same boat as this guy. In 4-6 months I'll be a military man embarking on my exciting journey like no other. I'm going into the Air Force too. But I don't plan on buying the car for another two years. I've already posted about the homework I've done over and over again crunching numbers and doing calculations to see if I'll be able to afford this. I also plan on staying with the military for more than the minimum of 4-6 years, so I won't need a house for a long time. The idea of living on base sounds fun to me and I think I'll enjoy it.

23 yrs old and I picked my 2SS/RS last month. I put down the down payment, making payments every month on it, and paying the rather expensive insurance and gas, but it is worth it, this car is freakin' awesome. Waiting to buy GMPP until they are produced and I have enough $ saved up.

Thank you! that was very nice of you to make such a post as this. It's greatly appreciated. I'm a 24 year old girl and I've definitely done my homework before hand. I ordered my car at the end of June and I fully intend to put down at least 15k. I work full time doing clinical trials cancer research. have my BS in Biology and Psychology. Fully intend on going back to get my masters and can't wait to buy a house!

I appreciate the older generation smiling on us youngins. It has come from the teachings of older generations (my parents) to make budgets and wise purchasing/financial decisions. Because of their advice I am already maxing out my 401k at work, have an automatic withdrawal into a personal retirement savings every paycheck that I pretend to not even see, and have mentally coached me how to see how much I make, but how much I can spend as I always need to take into account my student loans for my B.S. my soon to be car payments, and to be able to save to put down on a home in the short future.

I am not claiming that I am an expert by any means, but through my degree in Business and Comp. Sci I have learned the book smarts of financial responsibility, but it is because of the experience and lessons learned from my parents and others who have "been there done that" that I have the ability to take that knowledge and apply it to the real world.

Being 24 and needing a new car, I have the choice of fixing up my current one which would be easily double/triple the value of the car, buying just any other car that I don't want or won't enjoy, or buy the car that I have been following since it's reintroduction and long before. It is an easy choice, and while I still live at home, seeing as I just graduated. I would rather pay down my student and car loans while having my parents be kind enough to offer me a place to live free of charge, rather than rent an apartment and thus not be able to afford something that I will treasure for my first "after college car".

As for the above statement about why by the car but have it in your parents driveway, well that also come with the economy and the job hunt. It is easier to take the job I did and live at home right out of school and then hunt around to find what I really want to do and relocate rather than find a job and relocate without knowing anything about what I am about to get myself into. I have a spreadsheet breakdown of pretty much every facet of which I spend money on, right to the dollar, and how it will effect my paycheck. Even with the car (1.5x payments), the student loans (2x payments), and every day expensive, I am still managing to save a sizable amount yearly that will allow me to put a down payment on a nice house within two years.

I guess what I am trying to say is that it all comes down to knowing your limit, creating a budget for yourself, and most importantly, taking the advice from your elders who have experienced it and know a thing or two about how do deal with money and the proper ways of handling it. Thank you Calflan for your faith in my generation, and while your generation and mine has their screw ups who are in debt up to their eye balls in their meaningless attempt at show-off-dom/keeping-up-with-the-Jones', there are those of us who have the education, experience, and mentors to do what is right. Thank you sir, you certainly given respect to those of us you do not know but still trust us, you have earned my respect and I am glad to share this webspace with you and the heritage of owning a new Camaro with you.

Dar -
I'm floored, thank you for the respect.

It's truly a pleasure and as stated 'refreshing' to read all the posts and reponses to this thread and others on the site like this. I learned the same lessons at an early age from my father, but I'm not so sure I had as much 'temptation' as you guys have, as well as 'social pressures' to drive the cool car, wear the clothes, etc.

Based on the responses, I am truly convinced your gen is a bit more mature than mine at your age.

Best to you !

Snugglz128 - You'd do best to pass that ticket along, would'nt you ? You live in ATHENS !!!! All that orange and blue you wear can only cause trouble for you anyway, right ???
I'd be happy to help you out !!... No need to thank me.

BTW - did you go to UF to make somebody mad at home ???.. living in Athens ?
My wife is a Gator alum and our son a UGA fan.
SEC season stinks here !
... and to add vinegar - her mother an FSU grad, father UF, cousins - Auburn, Alabama and Clemson.

I'm 19 here!

Hoping to put up at least half on the down payment.

I'm leaving for the Marines in january of February, so even if I don't save up enough by then, if that z comes out I'll have enough money then to get her!

I turn 19 tomorrow, work part-time as a Pharmacy Technician and will be going into my 2nd year of college this September full-time, 12 credits. Working toward becoming a Pharmacist.

Putting down $10,643 with a 72 month loan at 4.75% for $367 per month. And yes, I did my homework.

Sup, i'm 25, started my own buisness when I was 16, spent 8 years on the road doing steel fabrication/erection, good money but I got burned out from running a crew and traveling all over the east coast, joined the army at 24, deployed to Iraq dec 1, 2008, ordered 2ss/rs/iom io interior m6 car in nov of 2008, paid 20k down, car will be delivered to my wife on thursday and go into storage until my return, I have always paid for everything I own myself, I have an upper 700 credit score and a long very positive credit history. My first car was a 71 chevy shortbed stepside pickup two tone jasper 350/350hp 3speed, 92 5spd honda civic beater, 97 z28 m6 ttops, 2006 chevy 3500 dually loaded, 2007chevy 3500 dually loaded, 07 gsxr 600. My wife and I are buying a house, she owns a 2006 cobalt SS, all our vehicles are paid for (currently just own the bike the s10 and the cobalt). A am a HS grad (homeschool) with no college (I knew I would just party and thought I would gain more from life experiences :?) My wife (also homeschool) is a RN. The biggest thing for people my age to remember is simply not to live outside their means, I made good money when I owned my buisness and I used it wisely, now the army pay isn't anything like I used to make but the benefits are pretty damn good and as long as your smart and live by a budget you will do fine on army pay. Now that my wife has graduated and is an RN that's just icing on the cake. Be smart, if you can't afford it then don't buy it, simple as that. Also I would encourage all parents out there to teach your children to provide for themselves, I learned from having to buy what I wanted for myself by myself, and am grateful to my parents for it. All that aside I appreciate the compliment from the OP. Im a blue collar guy just trying to put in my "buck oh five" and I am living proof that living wisely means living comfortably. Congrats to all the rest of the younger generation that are on here and able to afford this car, keep the level head and lets bring this country back!

At better than age 40, I have to say this is very refreshing and encouraging to read. Perhaps the next gen has a clue about financial credit, debt and responsibility more than they are given credit for.

Congratulations and good for you that fall into this category, you MAY just restore the economy it appears some of my age group screwed up (possibly out of greed) after all !!!

For you that fall into the age group, but not the 'plan ahead' category, you might want to take a lesson form your peers.
Unfortunately this was me until a few months ago. Now with recent work done to my current vehicle, and the debacle today in Muskegon my Camaro plans are permanently on hiatus.

Blows hard.. but after reading Blur's thread and the thread about Altrus' Explorer, I'm grateful to at least have some form of semi-reliable transportation.
