I use a small set of 2x6 ramps to get it high enough to get the jack under it and then put it on jackstands.

I've always used Jacks

I have a very low profile/short stroke jack and then use jack stands.

In the front, the "official" service manual location is the torque box behind the wheel well. This is the big body colored bulge with a round hole in the middle, outboard of where the front clip bolts on. But don't use this if your floor jack doesn't have a large rubber covered pad. Use a nearby surface on the front clip or the cross member in front of the oil pan.

In the rear, use the flat portion of the rear channel, which is body colored, directly in front of the wheel well. This is the service manual location. Do not use the differential housing!!!!

Personally, I think this is unnecessarily complicated for changing oil. Use ramps.

I'd use ramps. If I was concerned enough about that last maybe-a-cup, I'd leave the front up on the ramps and jack up the rear of the car only long enough for it to drain. Staying out from underneath in the meantime, then lower the rear of the car before continuing with the oil change.

Having two 2-ton jacks (and a couple smaller ones) means I can lift either end of a car up much more evenly than I could with only one jack. Plenty of jackstands for when I do need to get underneath.

Norm, to get a center point, would it be ok the jack the car at the rear differential hub/rear end?

Just find a downhill slope. Park facing down the hill, up on ramps. The car will be level.

I bought a 4 post hoist a few years ago and it is the single best tool purchase ever. I use it for detailing, as a large table for projects etc.

I use my local chevy dealer for oil changes. Works awesome every time.

As a 1 jack solution I'd try a spreader bar (like the one HF carries) first, driving the rear tires up on long 2x12's if necessary.

But the 2-jack solution is much nicer and more versatile.

Floor jack & jack stands work well for me.
