Looks like there's some flexibility provided by the as-molded shape of the rubber - it has a place to deform into without generating much force. You should be fine with full-size washers/shim-spacers.

Most bushings - OE or aftermarket - either don't use 'voided bushing' technology at all, or it's far less obvious.

made quite a bit of progress today, the 17 1LE radius arms are installed. i decided to remove the cam bolt on the radius arm. this was mostly because the arm is shorter and the caster should end up in the right spot using the factory location. Alighment to be checked/done next week.
i made some locking plates that fit tight between the fences to lock the pivot point.

EDIT: Oh yeah, I went with Norm's suggestion and made spacers that clamped on the inner aluminum bushing only

I'm interested to see the alignment numbers.

Also, is the radius arm bushing comparable to the gen5 bushing regarding rigidity and stiffness?

The way it spaced out I used a "thick" and "thin" washer on each side. I made a change from the original plan......... in order to support (hold in place) the hard rubber inserts, the large diameter washer was placed against the bushing and the smaller OD washer (the thin one) was placed next to the subframe bracket. The smaller OD is the same as the OD of the aluminum bushing insert. I used the smaller OD washer because I did not have a large OD that was the correct thickness. I then tacked the two washers together to make them a single unit.

I get with my alignment guy this evening.

back from the alignment, left 8.0 and right 8.1 degrees! spot on.
return to center is firm, turn in is precise. i need to run with the 285 square setup to see if the front sway bar needs to be stiffened up a bit. overall, quite pleased.

Keep in mind that changing caster also changes the bumpsteer curve.

Correct, I thought about that and was prepared to remove if necessary but did not experience any noticable effect on undulating roads.

Thanks for sharing. Have you considered adding these or other options to replace the OE rubber bushings?

With the bearing kit from BMR you wouldn't need a specific control arm 1LE vs SS.
