Wrong, my '98 GT dyno'd higher than that and it was rated at 225hp, 35 less than the 99-04 which made an honest 260. Those cars will be 40hp down to the Camaro but will be about 400 pounds lighter. Also, not all that many are stock anymore and I will almost guarantee you one that challenges you at a stoplight or dragstrip isn't. Don't think for one minute that V6 Camaro owners won't get all they can handle and probably more from 99-04 Mustang GTs (so long as the road stays straight). It's an understatement to say that I prefer the new Camaro to the current Mustang (even though I have owned 3) but facts are facts.

Those lines need to be labeled. I was looking at the flattest line as the V6's torque, and the more curved one as the HP, which would match other dyno charts I've seen for it; and I was looking at the lower line as the V8's torque. If I was reading it right, the V6 has more torque until 4500rpm.

Anyway, like I said...the Mustang would pull ahead pretty quickly, but the V6 Camaro would have to be pretty snappy...

Anyway, now I think I was probably reading the chart wrong, having the Mustang's lines transposed.

The graphs I posted are RWHP numbers measured on a chassis dyno, not rated BHP numbers. You're trying to compare the Camaro's BHP numbers to the Mustang's RWHP numbers, it doesn't work like that. Notice that both engines peak at about 260 hp which is what a 300hp engine would make measured at the wheels after drivetrain losses.

No, I was trying to compare the numbers in the chart you posted only. The chart I posted was just for reference as to the shape of the line, which looks the same for the portion that was in your chart; this makes it possible to extrapolate lower RPM lines for the chart you posted.

So, in the one you posted...which of the Mustang's lines is torque, and which is HP?

Excuse me? have you seen the numbers for the G8 GXP? a mustang with IRS (this is supposed to be on the next generation right?) is going to weigh just as much as the Camaro and is going to be smeared across the track. I don't care what you want to say. Have fun with your blue oval, because you'll be staring at that fine ass on the Camaro...

Like Ford never made anything that was a fat pig.

A little over 10 years ago, the blue oval boys were crying because the 302 Fox-Box went bye-bye and was replaced by a heavier Mustang with a version of the Modular that was rated between 215-225 hp. LT1 F-bodies were in the business of kicking Mustang ass and business was good.

Hell, even pathetic L32 3.4 Camaros and Firebirds were capable of stomping out Essex V6 powered Mustangs in spite of the Mustang's 400cc displacement advantage.

And the current Mustang's V6 is not exactly a jewel. It's a dumpy SUV engine.

Outbursts like that will make sweet victory (or near-victory) that much more satisfying.

I would have to say after seeing some g8 gt's in the 12's with just a tune and few lowly bolt on's, not really making tons of power, weight on this platform isn't a big an issue as you would think it would be, plus given the fact that they stated that the SS camaro would run mid 13's in the 1/4 when the heavier g8 gt runs that or better stock down 60 hp from what the SS will have, we know GM is underrating soemthing one way or another. So I would assume(you know what that does though), that more than likely the v6 camaro which weighs even less by another 200 lbs, will probably actually run a high 13 in the quarter, I'd say 13.8-13.9, which is one hell of a respectable number, better than the old LT1's. The damn Mustang GT's aren't going to be that much faster and sure as hell won't handle or ride as well,(or look as good, or be as comfortable, etc etc )...you get my point.

Oh yea, just seen the post about the G8 GXP, you know it will be faster than advertised, that mean 12's in the 1/4 folks and 4.5 sec 0-60 times, and to think the SS will be lighter and with more power I love the underrating they give their cars these days

the G8 GXP does 13 flat in the 1/4 with 400ph... now do your estimations again my friend... the SS will be running 12's bone stock...

Slightly off topic here but i have always wanted to run my girlfriends dad 2006 convertable mustang vs my 1999 rs theres is completely stock mine has a performance air filter, performance exhuast, and royal purple performance oil wich i belive all them added up 12hp so i have 212hp he has 210hp mine is t-tops theres is convertable wich gives me a big weight advantage. he is a mad ford fan im a mad chevy fan and i don't wanna embarrass my self and my camaro especially with a mustang so before i race will i have a chance? i know stock for stock im screwed but i have some upgrades and he has a big degrade (weight) could i pull off a win??

IRS won't happen in the Mustang until at least 2014-15.
