While I believe for the SS/TC launch control allows you to rev up to like 5k rpms hold it and pop the clutch, giving you more power @ launch while controlling wheel spin, granted I think the traction control does "bog" down the car to accomplish that, so disabling that would take car of that. And it may only be fractions of a second in difference, but the fact they are getting better times without launch control does say something. I know for me, I've become used to just keeping the clutch just before the sweet spot, and feathering while accelerating... And all of this is without traction control, LSD, launch control, and all the other helpful goodies...

No you don't. Learning how to drive a manual is like learning how to ride a bike. It takes practice, more practice, and you guessed it, more practice. Also just being open to suggestions from people who really know how to drive a stick, will take you far....
I hated driving manuals. My dad taught me, and he's not the most patient man, and I got discouraged, but eventually I got the hang of it. Then I got my SS/SC, with its short clutch, and touchy first gear, because it's supercharged, and in about 4 weeks I was golden. Now I love driving a stick, and I'll never want to go back to a auto ever again. There's just no way to explain how engaging it is. Practice is all it takes, and being open to advice. You'll be fine.

where I see it. It may have been 32 years ago, but I dialed in 12:35 ET's consistantly with my '68 with stock 375HP rated 396. That was without a tach. Had Muncie M22 but people would come up and ask if I had the popular B&M automatic of the day. My right foot stayed on the floor the entire 1320 feet. Those times where on a track used by NHRA, so they were indeed official.DON'T say no stock Camaro when you weren't there. Where you even born then? Sorry, but I lived it many times. I WILL get low 12's with LS3 with a few mods. Also someone said on this thread something about .5-2 seconds to complete a shift with a manual. Sounds like your clutch is disengaged 6 to 8 seconds in a 1/4. You're gonna red line alot. Your times are definately gonna suck. Get the automatic. My comments are usually pretty mellow but come on guys, think about what you're saying before you eat your foot.

so is it easier to drive a car with a manual and a stonger engine? i tried to drive my friends Audi A4 mt and i killed it like 7 time and then he made me stop trying. seems like it would be harder to kill if it have more power.

Yes.
Stock 02 Camaros WERE doing 12's and I RAN 12'S TOO! ...high 12's but still.... so there. What I want to know is who said..... 4.6 0-60. I KNOW. I also WILL quote Al Oppenheiser when he was introducing the LS3 engine in the manual as he said, "422hp. And, it may even creep up from there." Yes, I quoted him. We were all there. He said ALL OF THE NUMBERS RELEASED THUS FAR were all most likely off....as they continuously outdo themselves on the track! I also heard a little something about the order codes for the LS3 being the same as that of the vette.....shall we say, "may creep up from there?" and "430hp" in the same sentence??? And, if ANYONE here knows anything about a 12.4 quarter mile time done by Al in a special LS3 manual at a little place called Milford, please chime in. You all do know that Al is a hell of a driver.....not your everyday driver out on the streets, but a person who knows how to push a car to it's limits. So...something to chew on. And...my Camaro is running 12.88.....just a litte air intake is all. My 02 Z28 ran 12.74 w/ SLP loudmouth, CAI, Lid, KN, and smooth bellows. DON'T tell me it's not possible. HECK, the 5th Gen has 100 MORE hp!!! Quote:

I learned to drive a stick on a 4cyl... Then I sorta had to relearn when I got my SS/SC... but if you learn to drive a stick on a low torque 4 you'll be able to drive anything...

That's how I learned, it was my moms Lebaron (The first car I owned was a T15 Jimmy 4.3 v6 also manual, I wouldn't buy a mopar). Once you get the hang of it it's easier than you think. After you learn to drive a manual driving an auto will seem odd you may even try pressing the clutch and reaching for the stick that isn't there. For sure a car with huge torque will be less likely to bog down, the down side is the clutch won't be so happy, you may end up wearing the first clutch out and having to replace it prematurely. However clutches are built to wear saving the rest of the drive train.
Ps. now I feel like an ahole. |
