OK, I got a call from Chris @ Mid-Ohio. There is another group that needs the date and has the people. So if I don't get the twenty that we need by noon tomorrow we loose the date.

Here are the options that were sent to me for those of us that want to still do a instructional day.

Tuesday, August 17

Our Date is closed for Sept 13th.

The only thing open for this year is the HP Driving. I would be MORE THAN HAPPY to organize one of the above dates.

I know, I don't get it. I get more people wanting to do track days on motorcycles and there are less of them.

I am looking at doing on of these two dates if anyone is interested in joining me.

I am surprised we did not get a lot people jumping at the chance to get instruction from the professional instructors at the Mid Ohio School. Plus getting it at one of the premier road race tracks in the country.

The turnout for Camaros at Mid Ohio for the Grand-Am race was kinda surprising as well. It will take time apparently. We had such a strong showing for the race in years past from the GTOs. Why? It was FREE, LOL.

I have little to no interest from the GTO / G8 crew for the track day so far but I can see where $600 is a frightening prospect. When we did look at doing something like this a couple years back there turned out to be a cheaper option at one of the tracks in MI, I don't know, I think it was in the $200 neighborhood but that was just track time not the instruction we are getting here. Dare I say this needs a sponsor to lower the cost and make it more affordable to most? Or...plan it for next year so that people can save / make plans well in advance. Not sure... Not to mention, there are so many shows, rallies, drags, autocrosses, GTGs these days seems as though events are getting so diluted...

Would be nice to get other's feedback about why they are not considering this... Guys / Gals??

I think a lot of it was the cost, but it was $400 when we had it to ourselves.

I could understand people not wanting to do a "free for all" track day like you mentioned in Mi, there could be some serious ego issues, and damaged cars.

With a structured class/instruction like I was trying to do, you don't need to worry about it as much.

I am not trying to schedule another one this year. I am just picking a date that I can do with the HP Acura group and letting any one else know about it, in case they can and want to go.

I know how much my riding improved after the track days, I can imagine getting to "KNOW" my car that much also. I get excited about it.

As far as sponsors.....It would be great, but they get bothered & asked for stuff all the time. I think the fact that we had 2 BIG companies just being there participating, offering advice, learning from them, etc, that would have been worth the money as well. I want this to be something that the car guys put on and then the Companies like Pedders & Back Street Performance WANT to come on their own, like we had going on here.

I'm part of the problem. I originally said I was interested but then got involved in a major home landscaping project and have not had time to pursue my Camaro enthusiast activities as I had wanted to and won’t have time to even think about it until mid July. I was also having second thoughts about destroying my tires and brakes at this time. If anything changes with more interests from more people this year and if it’s not too late I could still be interested in doing this. I just can’t fully commit at this time because I’m not sure how much longer my other projects are going to take.

In a driving school, you should not leave needing new tires and brakes. That is a key item that is frequently misconstrued.

The RE-11 tires on my Camaro have seen track time for development and hard core timing / video runs. We have done burnouts for magazines. We have run auto crosses and will easily get 10K out of them. If we just drove the 180 tread wear rated Bridgestone RE-11s on the street we would only get 15K out of them. If we attended numerous driving schools we would get about the same 15K out of them. Tires should not be destroyed or need replacement from a driving school.

The SS Camaro has brakes including pads that are suitable for a driving school. There should be no need for any type of brake repair after a driving school in a SS. A Camaro that is not an SS would probably benefit from an upgrade in pads to a suitable street / track combination.

This is very different from an open track session. A high performance driving school is a great event for a Camaro owner that should not come with a big maintenance or repair bill.

I was ok with the $400 price but $600+ was getting more than I wanted to pay. I'm guessing many are spending their money on mods this year. Maybe next year would be better.

I was wanting the class/instructor format. I'm not interested in a "free for all" track day either.

At least I got a few slow laps around the Mid Ohio track last Saturday.

I would have liked to drive my stock suspension Camaro around Mid Ohio and then tried a Camaro with suspension upgrades.

One of our techs were there help with track support for a customer. He said that more GTOs were there than Camaros.

I'm sure we would have had even more had the 15 or so free tickets we handed out come available well in advance of the event and not 2 days ahead. That and the weather looked terrible in the morning which is always going to be an issue for attendance. I think there were 8 to 10 camaros and we had 20 goats. 0 G8s from the forums, the 3 that were there were me and my 2 neighbors. No G8 interest in much of anything from what I can tell, LOL.

I hope Chevy starts to become more available here sometime in the future. If it weren't for Pontiac's contribution during the release of the GTO, I know our mid ohio events wouldn't have been near as successful.

I see good things in the future though for the Holden tri-fecta; Camaro, G8 and GTO!!
