Hell, that SMS Challenger with the supercharged 5.7 Hemi only ran a 12.8 in the 1/4. And it had alot more than 480hp.
I used the Camaro as an example as to what the new engine and transmission would do for the Challenger. Its about the same difference in power to weight, and probably pretty similar gearing advantage. Currently, the SRT8's are only a tenth or two behind the Camaro SS. So, if you think that a 2010 Camaro with the mods I described would pick up more than 0.1s, why would you think that a Challenger with an equivalent performance boost won't see similar gains? I mean, if ~50 hp and better gearing can help one roughly 4000 lb, low 13s car why wouldn't it help another?

Also, I wouldn't call 20 hp a lot. The SMS car only had 500 hp, they were running just 5 psi of boost. And it weighed more than an SRT8 (though they were within 50 lbs). So I'd say its fairly indicitive of the new SRT8's performance. And 12.8@112 (Motor Trend SMS test) is faster that 13.0@110 (Motor Trend SS tests).

Also, I've always been more impressed with the R/Ts than the SRTs in terms of drag racing. I don't know why this is, maybe the suspension on the SRT is actually worse for straight line performance.

We can't tell street racing stories, but suffice it to say the most impressed I've been with a Challenger I myself have had experience with was an R/T with just a CAI/tune. That, and the Challenger forums I've visited have shown timeslips that make me more impressed with the R/T than the SRT.
I agree on the R/Ts very impressive for their stats especially. I know the SRT has a lower and stiffer suspension. I wonder how the new track pak R/Ts do at the strip, suspension wise they are far closer to the SRT8 than the base R/T.

I wouldnt trade out my R/T suspension for the SRT, considering last week at another local strip I lined up with an automatic SRT8 Challenger and took him by 2 .10ths at the end of the line. Thats with just a CAI on my part.

SRT's are nice on roads and are extremely comfy, but the R/T's are the drag strip runners.

2011 Challenger SRT8 To Get 6.4L Hemi w/ 480HP

http://blog.pricewheels.com/2010/06/...-4-liter-hemi/

Not only will the Chally be getting a 6.4L Hemi with 480 HP but it will have cylinder deactivation on the 6.4L Hemi. It is also getting minor refreshes to the grille and badging! Maybe it will ahve the grille from the concept which should be sweet. Let me tell you this 2011 Chally is going to be one nice car! I finally drove an SRT8 for the first time and I have to say I was impressed. It didn't feel much heavier than our Camaros, the engine and exhaust I must admit did sound better, wouldn't expect anything less of a Hemi! LOL It was a very comfortable ride and handled well considering it's dimensions. I actually felt more comfortable driving the Challenger in comparison to the Camaro easier to see out of I guess. It's a much more classic look up close in comparison to the Camaro agressive look. My only gripe was that interior, they really should've went a little retro with it, I love the pistol grip shifter though! Anyways just wanted to let you guys know if you didn't already! Makes me salivate just that much more for a Z28!

As of right now the fastest stock SRT-8 ive heard of running went in the high 12.9s and for the R/T a 13.3. With weight reduction and the extra 50 hp it will help the 6.4 out but I dont see it picking up 4 tenths and out running the Camaros best due to the problems of hooking up unless theyve upgraded the suspension.

What does that have to do with anything? Nobody was asking you to drive one. And if you don't like that colour, there's plenty of other choices. Its not as if the Challenger is exclusively pink or purple.

Now, if you're opposed to driving any car where pink or purple have been offered, I feel obliged to remind you that the Camaro was available in purple during the 90's. My brother owns a purple Z28.

Damn, that's crazy. And pink.

I dunno, I drove a Lexus IS-F once (8spd) and definitely did not need all 8 gears. Only used 6 of them and got the car up to 115

Meh. If you get the RT Challenger (the one in the price range of the SS), the Camaro still has it crushed. If the SRT8 is getting an upgrade to the 6.4l then expect to pay over $10k more. It's not really any different than comparing the Camaro SS to the Shelby Mustang: apples to oranges...
