Screaming,to get the overall gear ratio you multiply the trans ration times the ring and pinion ratio....is that correct? I'm old and I forgot

How noticeable would it be going from 3.27 to 3.55? I'm not really looking at doing this (MUCH rather have 3.73's.) just curious since this is the only option for us A6 guys..

I can tell you Apex Motorsports has sold twice as many 3.73s to V6 owners (2, you and then another Camaro5 member with a V6 ordered a set earlier today) as we've sold 3.55s (1 set).

You would realize an equivalent torque gain of approximately 10% or 27.3 rear wheel lb.-ft. of torque. You are definitely going to feel an extra 30 lb.-ft of torque.

So the question might be, is it worth it to get the 3.73's for roughly 10-11 ft lbs of torque more than the 3.55's? What's the difference in price?

...and its probably guaranteed that if the 3.73s were offered for the auto that number would be double or triple of whats been sold already.

Not bad, theres very little if anything out there that gives you that amount of extra torque for the price, but then again 3.73s might be the better choice (if they were available for all! lol).

So for an auto, would cruising iin 6th at 70 still be around the 2,200 to 2,300 rpm range for the 3.73s? If so, thats not too bad, but I don't think I'd want to go any higher. If thats true, then you could probably cruise at that speed around the 2,100 rpm range with the 3.55s.

Both options sound really good....but thinking the 3.73s would be the major favorite.

Another question...some people complain about "gear whine" when doing aftermarket gears. Z or Apex, can either of you comment about this for the V6?

Absolutely no whine yet. I believe that's where you get what you pay for with your installer. So far, my mechanic did both of my gears and on my other car, I drive it pretty hard. Hopefully Blessedchef will chime in as I think he has his for several months now.

I'd have concerns about applying more torque multiplication to the already problem laden Aisin AY6 manual transmission ...

Here is the most ironic part, the gears would be even more livable in the A6. Cruising at 70mph with 3.73 would only turn 2050rpm. 3.55s would turn 1950rpm at 70mph.

"Gear whine" has a lot to do with the installation but most are reporting little to none. I've not heard anyone report significant amounts of noise. Its not like the old days anymore.

That could be a concern if you were looking at a torque converter but rear end gears will not have an impact on the transmission, they are downstream from there.

Would I still need the install kit if I was to get a shop to do it or is that required for DIY only?
