GLADLY gave up some MPG to get rid of that awful popping. But,I did'nt buy this car for its great gas mileage in the first place.

This is some good tuning information. I always wondered why my 4th gen TA would do that. Maybe this should be in the Tuning section. DFCO (Decelaration Fuel Cut-Off), I would notice the popping when reving in park as well. I'm going to have to look for the off idle parameters. It's nice to know I didn't cause it.

Turn off DFCO?

It just doesn't make good sense to flow gasoline into the chambers during deceleration (where momentum is doing the work)... but do what you want.

More to it than just popping

DFCO popping is not muscle car. It's C.A.F.E. regulation driven federal crap.

So, the reason to turn it off is the cooling effect of the fuel being injected during decel. Important if you live in Arizona or if you like to drive hard and want the help of fuel cooling off the engine.

So, popping is great for meeting corporate fuel economy goals, but if we are talking muscle cars, well shoot it the fuel on decel and cool it off for the next time you punch it sucker!!!

I actually thought it was normal to get the pops under de-excel. My L99 did it stock and does it with the SLP Loudmouth catback. I guess I got so used to hearing it on my motorcycle that I didn't even think twice when I heard it on the Camaro.

Red face LS3 popping and cracking question during deceleration

The car does not sound like it is back firing but close to it. Is this a normal sound of popping and cracking when you are say in second gear and slowing down? It happens between 1800 to 1200 rpm or so. Only happens two or three times.

Will that go away when I put on a cat back exhaust or will it get louder?
I am not use to fuel injected motors. None of my carbed engines did this..

The sound makes me feel white trash like I need to grow a mullet..

I have no check engine lights and the engine seems to run fine.

I have under 350 miles on the car. I seemed to notice it after I did the fuse pull but then again maybe I simply just started to notice it in general.

They all do it. It's the tuning of the fuel injection, they turn off the fuel during a specific rpm range on decel for fuel economy.

Most aftermarket exhaust will make it louder. It can be completely eliminated with custom tuning, but then your into warranty issues.

Completely normal.
It's a fuel cutoff during deceleration.
Yes,it will get louder with aftermarket exhaust.Push in the clutch to avoid if it bugs you.
Can be tuned out as well but gas mileage will suffer slightly.

And this is bad why????? I like the sound. This isn't A Luxo barge, where you aren't supposed to hear any noise.

Maybe you should shop for a Lexus or Mercedes, if you find that sound objectionable. There is a huge difference between a Muscle Car (Perfromance Oriented Hot Rod) and what you may be accustomed to.

These cars are tuned more for performance and ambient enjoyment through sounds and performance. It is a sigificantly different world. If you had or have expereinced the sound of a Big Block Engine, you may understand it more. Now that was the sound of backpressure, that you could, literally, feel.

This car is a borderline factory Hot Rod.
