Gas GAUGES generally do not show accurate, linear consumption of gas. It has to do with how they read and move in the tank. But they should be consistent. In most cars that I have owned, the first "half" of the gauge would give 60% or more of the mileage. Heck, one car I owned would go 100 miles before the needle even budged off FULL, then about 275 miles more to empty.

My Camaro usually gets refilled at about the 1/8 tank level and has never taken more than 16.5 gallons to fill (usually between 15 and 15.5 gallons).

Four pages and no answer?
I got something like a Reduced Power and it went about 1/8 mile and stopped. Long story.

GTAHVIT gave an answer regarding secondary low fuel warnings:

On my car when I get the low fuel warning. I plan for 20 miles... Hasn't failed yet.

Sounds like you have something else going on.

Nope, ran it out and the guy with me called his wife to bring the lawn mower gas can.
I had said that I needed to get gas when I picked him up, but forgot. We got back in and the warning message about low fuel came back on, I acknowledged it and said again that I needed to get gas. Passed the same three gas stations headed back and got a reduced power warning and just limped along heading back to the station three miles back. Went about 1/8 mile and it died. Put in gas and off we went.

Probably about the most important thing I remember my mom ever telling me growing up.

I semi-did it on purpose when going from low grade to mid grade gas. Ran it til it was nearly dry. I do remember seeing a low fuel warning and the estimated fuel range displayed something like "you gonna be walking fool".
