Running Out of Gas??

Not sure about this so just thought I'd ask. I recently had the experience of driving dangerously close to empty on the highway (no gas available), I eventually got to a station but was wondering is there another light or message that comes up after the first notice? Like a "Dangerously Empty" or anything? I hope to never be this close to running out again.

NO there is no other warning and the needle does not go beyond the last line of the gauge like many other cars do.

On my car when I get the low fuel warning. I plan for 20 miles... Hasn't failed yet.

This is a good habit. For the most obvious reason that you will never run out of gas but you also have to consider the fuel pump. The only way it stays cool is by the gas itself. So if you run low on gas you have the potential of overheating and destroying your fuel pump because the pump is no longer submerged in a cooling liquid. Lastly, and this is probably a mute point on a new car, but if you run that low then fill up your tank you can disrupt any sediments laying on the bottom of the tank that can now be sucked up into your fuel system. This can lead to far worse things than just a broken fuel pump.

Push the blue OnStar button. When someone answers, say "find me the nearest gas station".

You could ask these guys on the go, although it can be very pricey.

I heard that the SST has one on speed-dial.

The fuel pump does not require gas to cool itself, that is an issue with older cars, not these. They also have filters to prevent any 'sediment' from being sucked into the fuel lines.
