I think people are getting pretty worked up over something that is pretty straight-forward. If you want to stop the service, you can call them and COMPLETELY sever your ties to Onstar. They will stop monitoring and collecting data.

Personally, I appreciate their service and I hope I never have to hear them say, "Sir, are you okay??"

Seriously people. If you don't like being tracked and your data sold to marketers than you should consider also disconnecting from the Internet. Have you ever noticed that when you go to different websites that you keep seeing the same ads? You are being followed and...Surprise!... you most likely consented to it, if you knew it or not. Even with the new Onstar terms they dont track half as much as you are already giving away online.

If you have a cell phone with you you are already easily tracked with or without your car or OnStar. I don't like that, but I'm keeping both my cell and OnStar. We have already lost much of our privacy and it isn't worth getting rid of Cell phones, OnStar, the internet, and avoiding airports and all the various cameras all over the place when I'm not a terrorist.

It's real world man....considering some of the "glammed up" Camaro's I've been seeing out there I wouldn't put it past someone to do that.

ONSTAR new terms allow them to track speed and location

Beware. New Onstar terms and conditions allow them to track speed and location and use them for service and warranty issues as well as share them with law enforcement.

Before the "shared info" can be used against you, it must be proven that you were driving the vehicle at the time. Same argument with red light cameras.

Already being discussed here http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=171384

If you don't like it then pull the Onstar fuse or if you're really paranoid, remove the Onstar module from behind the glove box.

I would be much more worried about things like warrenty concerns. Companies will look for any possible reason to void a warrenty in any industry, it is the same in the auto industry. I received the update to the t+c's and will be calling in the near future to have my trial Onstar service shut off in the Camaro and the data connection terminated.

I think you're missing the finer details. Who is OnStar going to share this information with. The information I'm referring to comes right from their amended Terms and Conditions (speed, location, direction, etc) which they say is anonymized before it's sold. Except, it's not hard to data mine to figure out who that anonymized data pertains to. As an example - Hi, we are insurance company XYZ, we know that our customer Joe Smith lives in Anytown USA... We know he drives an OnStar equipped vehicle, there seems to be a lot of route information at his address in Anytown USA. This must be him and as a matter of fact, he seems to drive routinely above the posted speed limit. Time for a rate increase. It may seem far fetched, but it's probably not as far off of the mark as you'd like it to be.

As for your internet example, I can completely stop tracking of my activities online by not surfing. OnStar didn't provide a fair chance with this "update". Do you think people would've bought OnStar equipped vehicles knowing that these privacy terms and conditions would change like this? Who knows, but I'd bet there'd be several.

Thanks for listening

If your insurance company increased your premium, would you ask why? And if they were to explain that they got the information from OnStar or GM telemetry, that would be ethically, if not legally wrong. (1) I would threaten a lawsuit, (2) I would find a new insurance company. Plenty of choices for insurance these days.
