Something tells me that allocations may be half what was expected 6-8 months ago....

A tighter market for sure.

we all wanted a car that would compete with the gt500 for a long time and now that we get something that can not only compete but probably better the competition we complain about price? i would love for this car to start at 50k too, but come on guys lets be realistic, you get what you pay for. we know we would of been disappointed if we paid 47k for a car that didnt come close to the gt500

GNX. Wow sweet car for the time but was way out of my budget, with
starting a family and a new house. So I came back to reality and bought
the more massed produced Grand national. I don't know the final official
numbers of how many GNX's were sold but it was not alot.

I decided to just go with the grand national and as I had the money I
modded the car over the next few years.

I kinda see a similarity here between the SS and the new ZL1. Depending
where you are in your life and what you can afford will be a deciding
factor for many of the viewers of this forums. I'm hoping that the price
will remain reasonable for most but that candle light is starting to look
a bit dimmer.
This is why the Z28 will become a reality. Actually a very smart marketing move; build a desirable performance Camaro that is out of reach of most financially (building demand). Then insert a familiar name "Z28" at an attainable price and watch the $ale$ come in. I'll buy that!

The competition for this Car, GT500, is about $53K with destination and SVT PP (the ZL1 comes with those things standard ((bigger breaks, 3.73 rear, upgraded suspension, higher end tires)) ). Camaro has been priced with a small premium over the Mustangs since it's re-release (seems to average about $1k or thereabouts), now add in a possible GG tax, and I do not see this car coming in under $55k. Seriously, for those balking at the price, umm sorry? You pay for performance, PERIOD!

Lastly, shockandawe, the SS's I was looking at were closer to 43K (42,885 to be exact) with a few options (2 SS/RS, Painted GFX, Hurst Shifter, Blade Spolier, Heritage Grille and Orange interior ). So just for an equivalent look, the discrepancy in price is down to 7k from your stated position of no more than 50k. Good luck getting a supercharger, upgraded transmisisons, half shafts, clutch/converter, rear end, seats, PTM, wider wheels and tires, bigger breaks and highly upgraded suspension for that 7k. Hell, getting all that for 12k over the SS ( my guess is ~55k for the ZL1 to start) that has comparable looks is STILL a bargain.

I think 59K base. The only options will be roof, wheels, automatic, stripe delete. I agree with the poster who said that in deciding between ZL1 and CTS-V the only consideration will be more power or more luxury. Price will be comparable. This car is awesome and has cutting edge tech. They're not gonna give it away. GM will sell all they can make, even at 60K. Most will never even see a showroom or dealer lot. People will trade V's, vettes, M's, AMG's to get this car. It's gonna be the hot new kid on the block.

My heart hopes for $50k...
If its much over that I am afraid Im gonna have to be asking for handouts on here.
Maybe not..
$50k is a LOT of money to some folks.....its almost $10 grand more than a SS.... Isn't that enough to pay? Just saying. Time for me to chill and wait for ordering day but its so hard just to sit still.

BTW, tomorrow is my BDAY.. Im gonna have a happy happy joy joy day tomorrow too! Maybe more ZL1 news for a Bday present?
A fixed price of 50k for the ZL1 base price?
How about the price of the ZL1 being a Thousand Dollars for every year that I am old?
Ill be 48 tomorrow.

I guarantee people from GM are reading this site and are reading what people are willing to pay for this car. You guys keep jacking up the price and saying how good the car is will get your wish for a 60k Camaro. look what happened to the ZR1, GM is knocking off 15k just for the dealers to take them, that's what will happen to the ZL1. Anything over 50k and these cars will rot on the lot.

I pick $50k. because if they price it higher than that they can't compete with the GT500. remember the ZL1 is gonna have the mark up like on all the GT500's. and that mark up is at least $7-8k.

with that price most people would just go for either the Vette or the CTS-V. why? Name. Those two cars are status symbols. the Camaro is not. and I don't think there's a lot willing to pay more than $65k out the door for a Camaro.

This car isn't gonna be for people on a budget. The car is gonna stomp the competition and that you will have to pay for. Like others have pointed out, this is a show piece for the whole camaro line. If you can't afford 60k they will just point you towards a 2ss...not only that but the CTS-V is 70k with less horse power, same engine. If you think this car is gonna be in the low 50s your dreaming!

I have a theory--since fbodfather voted 57,500, I am guessing when the price comes lower we will all feel better, say 54,999....he is setting us up for a relief rally....what do you all think?

Very astute observation my friend. You can also say that there is no higher option, so he voted for the highest. Let's hope that that is not the case. I'll be satisfied with a 54,999 car, 60 OTD at the most .

57,500 will knock 57% of the buyers out of buying it.
I'll tell you one thing, if they come out with a GT 500 that outperforms the ZL1, I'd be one pissed off owner.

I know everyone is wishing for 50k or low 50's .. but I'm with everyone that says it will compete w/ the GT500 w/ the Performance package and I heard that is around 54k or so ... I would be that is where the ZL1 will start at. It may even be higher ...

Either way those thinking that these will sit on the lot if priced above 50k base will be in for a letdown. I'm betting this is a lower quantity vehicle that will be a little harder to come by and they will sell as many as they make, even at 58k - 60k base. The auto option alone will bring a lot of buyers to the table.

This also gives GM room to produce a Z28 (or boss fighter) priced in the mid 40's ..
