Yep, I did the fuse pull this weekend and it runs much smoother, is faster and seems to shift smoother.

1. fill with high octane
2. do the fuse pull

It's a lot easier just to do the fuse pull.

If you disconnect the battery, I think you will need to re-index the windows and probably need to reset a few other things.

I only ask because I took out the battery to charge it over the winter and the first 2 fill ups were with 87 and the rest were with 94 and never did the fuse pull before ... So Just wondering if a fuse pull is still necessary.

I put 93 (or 91 when in OK) at all times in my SS. I tried to save some money by running 89 once and the difference was very noticeable (at least to me). It was sluggish and felt like it had no power. I can imagine putting 87 in it would be much much worse. So from then on, I've only put premium in.

If you want the horsepower and engine life, better stick with min 89 octane. I never go less then 91

Not to sound dumb, but my v6 manual suggests lower grade fuel. I've always used 91 in my cars and was more than a little confused by this. Should I be using what it recommends or 91?

From what I've read on here, the V6 is a different animal. It'll run just fine on 87, but guys have measured timing being pulled. The computer will keep increasing timing until it detects knock, so the theory is that higher octane is better. Some V6-ers swear they noticed a difference and others don't. Personally, I always ran 93 on mine and it was nice and smooth, and the car seemed to be happy.

This fight will be endless on the forum. Probably you do get some benefit in horsepower for the V6 but I doubt it is noticeable anything more than a placebo effect.

For example, real story, my wife was at the bar the other day with a friend, when I get there she orders a round of Patron shots, the friend is like are you crazy do you know what they charge for that? She changes it to Cuervo Gold. My says no, I can't drink Cuervo, it's disgusting and makes me vomit as soon as I try it, and it burns 100 times more than Patron. I can only drink Patron. The friend says well we've been taking Cuervo shots all night and you though it was Patron. True story, I was laughing. My point is most of what people feel putting Premium in the V6 is a placebo effect.

Highly recommended. I wouldn't ever put 87 in. I'd be disrespecting my poor camaro....
