- You're going to be extending your current loan (let's say with the trade, you're keeping the same monthly payment), basically adding to your time on the loan, so add say $500/month for another 3 years (best case) = $18k
- Best case, 20k miles a year, gas at $4/gal premium, with the Camaro @ 10mpg (take off the lead shoe!) you'll spend $8k per year on gas. With the GT-R, 20k/year @ 16mpg, you're spending $5k per year. Savings= $3k.

So, add it up:
-15k loss of value on the Camaro
-18k extending your loan
+3k gas savings
= you lose $30k on this deal.
= or, $500/month on top of the ~$400/month you spend on gas, for 5 years.

Do the math!

Padre
You're figuring a loan for 3 years, but only gas savings for 1 year. I think there is a problem with your math.

The GTR is superior the Camaro in every way. If you can afford the GTR, don't pass it up. If you can afford to modify the GTR, then you can own the street (or track).

Here, maybe this will help you make up your mind.

P.S. Still think the $100 bet is BS?

That thing is awesome. I love the gt-r, and would trade my camaro for one anyday if the deal was good. If the money is right then I say go for it, but as some have said it shouldnt matter what we think. You are comparing apples to oranges.

Oops. But it's still $500/month, so he saves $200/month on gas and is still paying $300/month more (ballpark figure).

But I've done similar things. I just don't think you ever buy a new, more expensive car for the gas savings. But I'll accept the other non-tangible reasons. Ultimately, go with what will make you happy.

Why are you even asking?? The GTR is a much better car in every way possible. If you can swing it go for it. Much more reliable. Way better looking. Huge heritage. Amazing track car that's legal to drive on the street. And you won't see many more if any at all. The camaro isn't a new model anymore and they are everywhere. I was so happy when I got rid of mine. I wish I could have got a GTR instead of my mini and gsxr though.

I don't think He's buying it for the gas savings. That would just be a nice "bonus". BTW, I saw a used one at a Nissan dealer about 6-8 months ago and they were asking $55,000.

GT-R Its an east decision if you can truly afford it. Its call GODZILLA for a reason.

Also... GTR a ricer? is like calling a toaster a fridge. It just aint so.

It would seem the car world have lost the fews between RICER and TUNER and Supercar.
Ricer = RX7, bad body kit, and just a loud exhaust with a retardedky big spoiler, trying to make it look fast instead of making it go fast.
Tuner = RX7, worthy body kit, full performance overhaul, making it sound like a blender, but they sure as hell are fast, Unlike ricers where they just look stupid and the person is trying to make it seem fast. Aka..big bucks for a proper tuner.
Supercar = GTR. Stock madness, beautiful lines (that any person should appreciate) and even more beautiful performance, which you'd obviously have to be a complete inbred SOB that had his skull beat in as a child not to see.

People need to stop giving a rats ass about where the car is made and who its sold by, Look at the numbers. GTR will smoke a camaro, challenger, mustang, vette. any day of the week. You may be hurt by this, but only because your can't accept it. GTR legitimately rules the streets. There is no getting around it.

WOw 9MPGs was the first thing I noticed too...thats terrible. I would imagine if you can swing a GTR you shouldnt have a problem keeping the current car though, arent they like $75,000+ even used?

I think there's a YouTube video where it barely lost to a C6R. BARELY!!! Sorry to say but a ZR1 would be a smudge in its rear view mirror.

On a positive note, a vette is a world wide icon. Only car people actually know about a GTR and it's insane power. To most it's just a Nissan.

sounds about right, the new ones start at 96. Heck, you can go over to Nissan's website and build one if you want.
