At night, yes the lines (and most of the car) fades away. During the daylight.... NOTHING makes the body lines pop like a black car.

Wow! Look at that! No way a silver car looks that good!

*sigh* if I could keep it looking like this everyday then I would've ordered black...nursing school eats away too much of my schedule though! Maybe once I'm done next year I'll trade in the IOM RS for a black SS/RS

It was pointless to try to wax and wash it hoping it would shine. It never did. It was a new car that looked like it had years on it simply because of its boring color.
Silver is just plain and dull. There is no shine to that color. I am happy there are people who think Silver is a decent color because it makes the cars others pick stand out.

Myself and others disagree with your assessment of the color silver......here is the proof that when a silver Camaro is next to a red or black Camaro the silver car is noticed.

Notice the Silver Car on the left side of the picture parked between two red ones.

The Result, with 130,000 miles on this daily driver.

A couple of things:

1. I think a better thread title would be "The black Camaro I saw today had some orange peel" - this thread implies that all Black Camaros have bad paint jobs -- not true.

2. Everyone has their opinions about colors..............that's why we could offer FIFTY and some would still have issues........

3. Silver shows off the various character lines of the new Camaro as other colors cannot -- ABM and IOM do to a lesser extent. I keep going back in my mind to driving a Silver SS around Manhattan on a cloudy day in April -- and how peoples' jaws dropped - and people would stop halfway across a cross-walk to take pictures -- and at one point I looked over and saw the outline of the Silver SS in a darkened shop window (almost black glass.....) -- and just swelling with pride at HOW GOOD this car really looks....... Silver just looks Kick*** in an urban setting -- esp. on a cloudy day........and with the halos on, it looks like it's gonna eat anything that gets in its way.............(I LOVE that look....)

........so while not everyone loves Silver -- it IS the color of the original concept -- and the concept was painted Silver to show off the various character lines of the car --

I thought the black and white random grafix showed the best detail in the lines when the sunlight hit that semigloss. Am I the only one who thinks that way?

No offense to anyone who has a black one, but I think black does not do this car's killer lines justice. I think the lighter colours like silver, IOM, Yellow and Red accentuate the great shape of this car better.

The one thing I didn't like was the excessive orange peel in the paint. It might be just this particular Camaro, but the orange peel was a bit excessive in the black paint of the one I sat in today. Have others here noticed the Orange peel in the paint being a bit much?
just say no to orange peel paint!

There's a silver car in that pic? lol, couldn't resist. Silver is not my choice, there just seems to be so many on the road. It does pop the lines on the Camaro though, Summit White I think does the same thing.

Back on thread: Scott, can you or someone tell us how thick the clearcoat is? How much flattening can we get away with?

I don't think a shadowy picture tells the true story. I am talking about real world comparisons. Like I said before...I am happy so many people seem to think dull silver is hot. That makes a shiny camaro of another color more special.

Car shows like the NY Auto show are indoors under either Flourescent or moderately low K metal halide, like I said- for those type of shows, there is a reason that a large portion of the cars are silver.

i got black coming and it better not be there. But what I have seen in new vehicles wasnt really orange peel but small swirl real fine. I would think that one was probably just bad or the poster is real picky. You can always get a clay bar or a fine polish it will be fine. The only way to get a perfec paint job is to get one of those 10,000 dollar paint jobs that out there. Although factory should be near perfect.

My black one has orange peel and it was manufactured May 1 2010 or so. It's only visible at the right (wrong) angle and lighting. You have to get close to it to see it.
