If CAFE told you to jump off a bridge, would you do it?

1. Don't buy a new car that you don't like that was designed to meet the new regulations. Vote with your wallet.

2. Become politically active and hold your elected officials accountable for their positions and votes. What we measure gets improved. There is a direct causal link between regulation and the ballot box.

Why is it funny? What motor does your Gen 5 Camaro have?

....Oh...right.....

Don't get me wrong: I'm not saying that I am in FAVOR of a 1/4 of displacement being found in each cylinder... just making the observation that one CAN find the cute lil' thangs in under some fairly prestigious nameplates. And, as far as CAFE standards, that is indeed an unfair, and generally uneducated, imposition being placed on all auto manufacturers, and therefore all automotive consumers, that I am NOT a fan of. While trying to avoid getting political here, it is very similar to the way certain firearms are deemed usafe, dangerous, or "assault" weapons being decided by people who know nothing of the actual aspects of the firearms, but still get to decide the rules for everybody ELSE to be forced to abide by... the rules are based on emotion, political correctness, and feelings; not science, and are not thought out more than about five seconds into the future.

It's not a warning light, it's a decorative dash emblem for when the 4cyl's turbo kicks in....

Unfortunately, we will ALL have to "buy new cars designed to meet the new regs," because the ultra-high mileage requirement cars will NOT be able to support their own price tags... so auto manufacturers will need to raise the prices on their entire line of vehicles, in order to compensate for losses taken on them... higher performing vehicles will need to be OVERpriced so that the higher MILEAGE vehicles can be sold underpriced for their cost of manufacturing.

1) The problem with regulators is that they don't take kindly to people who find ways to avoid their master plans. They set regulations on particulate emissions from new electricity plants and once they got that passed they decided that they should also apply them to existing plants because they stopped making new ones. Eventually, they find ways to force you to comply or make it utterly imractical to avoid compliance. If I keep my 5th gen, who's to say that in 10 years they don't impose a "V8 Tax" of $10K a year?

2) I encourage everyone to do just this. We know that we can't touch these people spewing 18,000 pages of new regulations per year, so we have to vote for people who can de-fund their agencies or write laws to reign them in.

We have to act fast, before it's too late.

I'm confused at this thread. Is this just a rumor ir just a dragged out joke? If this is true, where's the link to an article stating this? Reference?

Nothing wrong with downsizing as long as its powerful enough and light enough.

Everyone is doing it, Even F1 if coming up with a 1.6l V6 turbo charged engine for 2014

But beware of the turbo. Almost always trouble and expensive to fix in the long run.

There is more to it than hp or torque. American muscle is traditionally v8 and if that is the reason for buying a camaro than only a v8 will do. There are many reasons for buying a camaro and a 4 would work in a gen5 for some people. I drove a v6 and was impressed enough to almost buy one. After thinking through my reasons I wanted to relive my 67 big block from years past. I may drive it 90 percent of the time like a 4 but there are times when I find a backroad or passing and the V8 really is the reason i got it.
