Four Cylinder Camaro

Three words I hate hearing, but apparently it's coming. So what are we to expect from this horrible idea? No way it can be on the 5th gen, right? Weight would be a big problem, you'd think.

Sixth gen, and it will be turbo'd, and probably a pretty impressive little setup.

Correct, its going to be for 6th gens. I have heard that it will be a 2.0TT or something similar to that pushing out approx 270HP.

the 4 banger regal GS turbo is rated at 270 ... id imagine theyd up it a bit for this car

with a tune it would be putting out just more than the 3.6 id imagine

Right now the TT setup GM's putting out for the Malibu Turbo pushes that. By the time the sixth gens roll out it should be improved upon, and offer more HP.

Could be, wouldnt be surprised if it got over 300 at the crank. I think they're also thinking of doing a 3.6-7 TT that'll be rated at around 450 as well for the 6th gens. We'll all see in time though!

A few years ago, I swore off six cylinder engines, after owning a Camaro that made 102 hp out of its sorry six. I spent the next few years openly mocking the foolishness of anybody who had less than eight pistons making their car go.However, after trying out the NEW era of six cylinder powerplants that Camaro presented, I changed my tune. More than three times the horses, and WAAAAAYYYY better mileage. I now drive one of them, and love everything about it. So, I've learned to never say never... while I remain SKEPTICAL about what a four cyl might be like under the hood of a Camaro, I won't write it off as lunacy until I see what it does.

Even with a twin turbo, you still want a significant reduction in weight. So the 6th must be on a much lighter platform.

Alpha is a significantly lighter platform. Look at the new Cadillac ATS for a preview of the 6th gen. GM's 2.0T will be a great base engine.

And for all the V8 die hards, yes, Alpha can support a V8. No worries there.

The 1982 Camaro could be purchased with a 90 HP LQ8 Iron Duke 4 cylinder.
