My wife ordered my TF edition for me when they first started taking orders. What a great day it was when it came in a month early, my first November Christmas. I don't know how many were made but it does not really matter to me this car will always be special to me.

That's what I'm talking about !!! What a lot of people don't understand is 1/2 billion people have seen the movie (s) Transformers. Most of the time when someone see's your car, one of the first things that come to mind is Transformers or Bumblebee ... And it doesn't matter what color or trim your car is. They did a very good job marketing the movie, so it makes sense that GM would run with it too ...

The big draw for me is huge respect for Stan Lee, his work and what he's brought to the world with Marvel Comics. Seeing the comics "live" in movies that he's also part of is really an incredible thing. If you're not into that coupled with how the movie producers bring the characters to life on the big screen, then you'll never understand the appeal of the Transformers Edition.

We'd have bought Speed Racer's car if that was ever produced.
Don't get me wrong I have always loved Transformers. I own a huge collection of the original toys and have them locked away in storage. However I lost interest in the series after the Beast Wars TV show. Although Transformers has been around since 1984, it's massive popularity as of late is simply due to the movies and will likely fade once Michael Bay moves on to other things. Remember before the first Transformers movie? During the days of Beast Wars, Beast Machines, etc? Transformers popularity had hit a very low point and was revived by the creation of the movies. Obviously I have nothing against the series nor the Bumblebee look (I mean look at my car). I was simply asking what the appeal was to those of you who bought it because I did not understand it.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean when you talk about Stan Lee being an inspiration with relation to Transformers. Although Stan Lee was a higher up at Marvel Comics he was not involved in the Transformers Comics at all (as far as I can tell from some quick searching).

Do you have young kids? You might understand the effect a bit more if you did. My five year olds think its the coolest thing since Sponge Bob. Admittedly, without the kids, I likely would not have bought the TF edition- the kids are REALLY into the transformers

And the appeal of Transformers is not just the movie. It has a pretty successful animation which has grabbed a whole new generation of kids. True, in the animation it is just a generic yellow hatchback but along with the movie has really brought bumblebee back in a big way. If its a "fad". its no more a fad than wanting to have the next hot car that comes up. Interest fades for everything that has been around to some degree.

In any case, "not understanding the appeal" of the TF edition is akin to not understanding why someone would like IOM or some other color or option or whatever. Why don't you ask those questions too?

Yea, when she came to me that evening and said we needed to talk about Christmas this was the last thing on my mind. When she was telling me my gift had come early I figured it was to big to hide somewhere in the house without me coming across it. I was about to tell her to pick a room and I would not use the room until after the holiday season was over. When she said it will not fit into a room I was like, geez? What in the hell did you buy? Then when I saw it I was like . Needless to say I am a big Transformers fan!

I love my Transformers edition, I probably wouldn't have been so interested had it not come out with the TE, but I'm loving it!

Don't understand that just like you don't understand the appeal. Maybe you should think before you post.

There are multiple generations of people who enjoy it. If you dont then thats fine. Really...its not a big deal.

Also- I drove "Barry" today and if you saw the reaction people had you wouldnt use the word "fad".

If you saw a replica of the Batmobile from the TV show driving down the street would you roll your eyes and say fad?
Naahhhh....You would say "would you look at that....wow!" and you would appreciate the time and effort put in to make such a thing possible.

These are big toys....

I completely agree !!! The drive behind my purchase was my 15 year old. She was really into Transformers, and I said to her how cool would it be if we got a Transformers car too .... So needless to say, within two weeks we had a second 5th Gen sitting in the driveway .... How kool is that ?

It's similar to Star Trek. Big for a time and then faded some. The original couple of movies (KAAHHHNNNN!!!) made it popular again. ST:NG brought in a new group of fans. As the movies and various series wore on, people stopped caring about it.

But look at it now with the release of the most recent movie... it's back with a vengence. Pop culture stuff will always run in cycles.
