I'm not quite sure it's a retro theme so much as retro inspired. I always thought the z/28 was the more luxury end of the car, leather seats, sunroof, more options and the SS package was the "go" part of it. Bigger engine, suspension, etc. etc. I know the SS maros of recent years are alot faster stock then the z/28's.

U are correct. Of recent years, the SS had hands down, but comparing the two from back in the day the Z/28 was the shiznit!! Seeing as how it is retro inspired, I think it would complete the "inspiration".

so it seems like I am always copying you.... Here I have to disagree. If you look at the mustang - there are so many different versions of the poor car . It takes away from the essence. If Saleen makes more "versions" of the Camaro to choose from, I would be afraid the same thing might happen to the Camaro......just me:p

There were actually many versions of the 4th Gen made by many different companies/dealers. It wasn't just a V6, Z28, and SS. Heck, I'm still finding out about them today. I'll go back and find the thread, but it was kinda cool to see all the types. There's a member w/ us who has a red or white 4th Gen, can't recall the name, but he's from the WMCC crowd (WMCC Doug?). His was a special edition as well....loved the car.
I'm not saying make 82 versions of the car. I want a GM made Camaro w/ 3 or 4 different models. V6, V6 hi-po, V8, V8 Z28, V8 SS. But, it's very cool IMO to see the Berger, Tom Henry, etc. That's what I mean. Saleen is just another that would get in there and build a camaro. I think Ford when I think of Saleen, but would love to see what he has in that brain of his for the 5th Gen. Might be kinda cool, you know. And yes, we do think alike! ![]() http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showth...=5582#post5582 It was the white "Hot Rod" edition. Here's a couple more of what I meant...check out the link. This is what I'd like to see. http://www.gmmginc.net/ Click on the cars link. Gotta love these!!! |

The SS's were not any faster than the regular Z28. If anything they are a little bit slower because they are heavier due to the wheels, heavier supension, brakes and the like. On a dyno they would put down the same rwhp.

I'll take this from someone else's post:
"Any Chevy can be an SS, but only one car can be a Z28." Enough said. |

Right now, it could go either way. Then again, it could all be in perception. Z28 being the course racing Camaro and the SS owning the strip. I've owned all three...V6, Z28, and SS. But, I'm kinda partial to the SS nameplate myself. Those in the Camaro crowd who know Camaros (especially 4th Gens), know the SS to be top dog. It could be confusing switching things around for a few. Either way, I'll be fine...because I'll be in one!

I'm up in the air completely. Z28 would fit in with Z06 as being known as top current performance models, along with in the past Z24 Cavalier, Z26 Baretta, Z34 Lumina/Monte Carlo, Z71 Silverados and so on. SS would fit in with the rest of the current cars and truck having SS as their top designation. I think I would prefer Z28 myself. From past history it seems to equal out to SS being the big power street model and the Z designation being the performance suspension track/offroading model. It will be interesting to see how this pans out, as this is a hot debate among enthusiasts. Also thrown into the mix is the designation for the super Vette. As much as magazines tell you it's the Z07 or the SS, there currently is no official name for the car. GM, however, has renewed the trademark on the ZR1 name. That will also be interesting to see how it pans out.

No I'm talking about ZR-1 for the super Corvette. It was in the May 2007 issue of GM High Tech Performance. I will quote the article from page 10:
"ZR-1 REBORN? So far it's been called SS, Stingray, Z06, and Blue Devil by enthusiasts and even GM insiders, and now another name can be given to the new super-'Vette: ZR-1. As of November 6, 2006, GM has applied for the ZR-1 name to be trademarked with reference to "G&S: Motor land vehicles, namely automobiles" (G&S stands for goods and services), as well as numerous apparel items such as watches and jackets. Will the LS9-powered 'Vette wear the same badge as the first modern up-level Corvette?" It could be just to remarket ZR-1 memoribilia or to actually use as the name for the car. It would be really interesting to see what other names GM has trademarked from the past. Like I said in the 'Vette thread about this: It could be a ploy by GM to keep everyone guessing. |
