All I did was give one experienced drivers opinion. SEEMS YOU GET FLAMED ON HERE if you have any contrary opinion !!!!!!!!

Maybe he thinks guys who can't do speed shifts without a clutch need that shifter.??

I think there are lots of novices on here who will go out and get that shifter just because some one here said it was a must have.Try the shifter that comes with it. If you need more then go get it.

All I did was offer another view.

Maybe it's the driver NOT the shifter!
Calm down. I didn't flame you. You're right, you didn't advise anyone NOT to get the Hurst. You posted that your brother has blah blah blah credentials and practically the experience of a NASCAR driver, and he advised you NOT to get the Hurst for everyday driving. So when you post that here, it's like you're sharing that advice with us, i.e. we shouldn't get the Hurst either.

The problem is you haven't given a single reason WHY! You keep telling us how qualified your brother is, as if anything he says is gospel. And you don't really need to get sarcastic and imply that maybe some of us can't shift with the stock shifter, and therefore need the help of the Hurst. Come on!

The couple examples you have given - 1) a hassle when driving at 120 mph in a race, and 2) maybe some guys might need one because they can't do speed shifts with a clutch... These are not reasons why the Hurst is NOT good for every day driving. Don't you see that?

And what exactly does "Maybe it's the driver NOT the shifter!" mean?

Sorry to question you like this, but it's like you're not understanding that we're simply trying to get at least one reason why the Hurst is not good for every day driving or good for those you call "novices." Peace, dude.

I checked out the throw on the 6 speed i sat in Wednesday - it seemed to be fine to me - I opted to not go woth the Hurst shifter for now - I will wait and see how the factory one performs. One of teh benefits to a short throw after market shifter is that it centers itself very quickly to allow for a quicker shift from 2nd to 3rd gear. Honestly, unless you are on the strip trying to shave off a tenth of a second - the factory shifter should be just fine. Just my two cents.
Good points Koolwip, I agree. I have installed two Hursts and neither took more than an hour.

I would personally like the window sticker to show the Hurst option on it - I think that makes the car slightly more desirable - but it's definitely not a big deal. And you save over $100 to install it yourself, with the added advantage of retaining the stock shifter should you (or the next owner) ever decide to go back for whatever reason.

For me, I like the Hurst for two basic reasons:

1) I like the look of the Hurst. It makes the car that much more retro. The Mustang's Hurst with the white ball and chrome blade handle look amazing, but even just the ball would do it for me.

2) It has a great feel. Yes the throw is shorter, but it's more than that. There's a mechanical precision to it that the stock shifter doesn't have. There is no play, so you're more connected to the transmission. It feels racy!

After painfully reading this entire thread i have concluded 4 things:

1. OUR72GTO is an idiot.
2. Shifty 6 is my hero.
3. I want to meet OUR72GTO's brother so maybe his grace can somehow shine on me.
4. OUR72GTO is an idiot.

OK, I said above that "according to the posted letter" that it would remove itself.

My "opinion" now is to HAVE IT REMOVED, just in case.

The difference is I don't think anybody on here should call another poster an idiot (other than a dealer). And personal attacks by calling a relative of some one you have never met a knucklehead is some thing that sure makes me want offer hero worship.

Maybe there should be a minimum age requirement on CAMARO5 so these teen age style attacks can be limited.

Hurst makes a wonderful product. I never said it was a POS. I never said anyone other than me should not buy one.

Funny thing is most who will buy is will get it based on reputation rather than personal experience or to get it on a window sticker. That is just good marketing on HURST'S part. As some one who has had 27 new window stickers I have come to learn to buy a car for me to enjoy...not the next owner.

These personal attacks were what I saw in just 2 visits on the other CAMARO site. I hope this site does not fall victim to that.

Called my dealer and had mine removed, but will get one and install it myself. You can't beat a Hurst shifter. I had one on my '70 1/2 Camaro SS/RS 350, great shifter.

This may be how it comes, im not sure but this is the pic from GMPP and it looks like the ball is threaded on.

BTW i heard (this may sound farfetched) that the ball is made by a company that makes billiard balls, anyone think that holds any water ?

Just as an aside some thought that you could hopefully install this through the top of the console, but based on the way that looks there is no way in the world that could go in without pulling the console out.

taken apart.!

First off I called your brother a CHUCKLE-head, not a knucklehead. Those are 2 vastly different things.

Second, I'm 34 years old...way past teenager. Think about how my wife feels.

Third, I am getting it based on MY very own personal experience. I'm not getting advice from anyone else, not even my cousin.

Dude, its cool....we don't all have to get along. Like I said before, the majority of us think its a great addition. Others want to see how the stock one is and may add it later. You said there is no way on this green earth you are getting it and your brother told you not too. I think we just want to know why (other than it will give you fits, and racing at 120 miles an our in traffic). What is the drawback? If you just want to be different...that's cool too.

Fourth, thanks Red Hot SS. It's nice to be loved

I can't let this thread die.

Hurst makes a wonderful product, and you never said it was a POS? I guess that's right. Your brother certainly disagrees however, yes?

I'm not sure how you know that most here will get the Hurst based on reputation. I'm getting it based on personal experience, having had 3 cars with Hurst in them. And most of the replies I've seen are from owners with previous Hurst experience.

And it doesn't really make sense to spend that much on an option just for the next owner to enjoy - I'm almost positive that no one is going to do that. If ANYONE plans on spending the $380 just so the next owner can enjoy it, please post a reply to prove me wrong. When I mentioned the window sticker in my earlier post, I only meant that ordering it as an LPO (as opposed to buying one yourself aftermarket) had the added bonus of the Hurst displaying on the window sticker - traditionally, performance options on the window sticker add to the value of the muscle cars.

1) NO HE DID NOT ...you read that in yourself.

2) The majority of the 80,000 NEXT GENERATION new owners of these cars have never driven a Hurst or a Munzi .......

3) Looks like some just order that to get a good looking "knob." They likely will never use it to it's designed purpose. Again further good marketing by GM.

4 ) You and others read way too much into and start slinging wild statements that I (or my brother ) never made.

Take a breath and re read from the top.

HAVE A NICE DAY
