anyone ever been over to the SVT forum? they have a thread that seems dedicated to C5. even dragoneye is quoted on there.
I find it funny that They spend so much time talking about how crappy the ZL1 is and the pill believe that it's all just gm marketing. Got anything better to do with your time? you like your fords. and some of us like GM. some of us don't buy into the hype but also know that the car is still extremely impressive in the right hands. I agree on some of his points but disagree on others. I also see his side on things but think it's funny that they spend so much time discussing C5. almost as if they are jealous. lol. I'll be honest though C5 hasn't been a place I liked a whole lot since the camaro debut. and it has to do with the bone headed comments a lot of members make. Members that joined after initial production. but whatever. no place is perfect. 62 pages to make them feel better about buying a ford. |

Eh, let them play with themselves over at their forum. They may talk sh*t about us, call us fanboys, whatever, but it's important to note that losers like thepill came over to our site because apparently their lives are so meaningless and boring that they feel the need to "defend" their favorite brand/car on a competitor's forum. It's sad really.
Like I always say, I don't go to ToyotaNation to talk about GM.

Wait til the new GT500 posts some numbers though. Right now it's all brand hating. They will turn to smug real fast ifffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff the GT500 is as they hope. But if it's not, that is a hand full of 2s, 3s and 4s, all off suit, and they'll be back to brand hating full speed again. BTW, is anyone other than me not impressed by the posted 1/4 times from the aftermarket guys? Not that those aren't nice and all, but it goes back to the modding issue. Me, I want stock performance. Maybe I just use that as the measuring stick of what GM is delivering, not just what it's capable of. I want real honest to goodness delivered and broke in numbers. But it might just be me. I'm just not impressed by a bigger pulley and powertrain recalibration.

![]() Actually....I know of one other time a GT500 forum quoted me...and that was when I issued that public warning to our "Mustang friends"...they didn't like that... ![]() You have to remember one thing about the current Camaro5.com.....there are a lot of newbies to the Camaro here. Which IS, undeniably, a good thing for the car...but they've got some time ahead of them...and besides all that - generally speaking, the larger a crowd gets, the more chances you have of finding someone stupid in it...I'm not insinuating anybody here is stupid, because this is a public post - but you get my drift.... It's a compromise I'm willing to live with, because the vast majority of people here - I find to be enthusiastic and likable. As I said in my journal thread - the car embodies the spirit of its enthusiasts, to me...it's a special feeling. ![]() As for the GT500....you've all heard me say it before... GT500 is old-school brute-force muscle car. ZL1 is the new-age super-"muscle car". They are nearly incomparable if you ask me. But if forced into a line-by-line comparison; the ZL1 is vastly superior in 90% of categories to the Mustang...but all people seem to care about when bench racing is the horsepower number (funny, though...before the '13 announcement, nobody seemed to care the SS and V6 Camaro made more power than their Mustang rivals )...and the quarter-mile guesses...which, I'll grant - will most likely be quicker than the Z. But the GT500 is one giant heap of a compromise. It's as polished as a turd can get....the architecture is Antiquated....So Ford stuck to their strengths and pushed an outrageous-output engine into a car that otherwise is very unimpressive to the keen observer. Time will show this to be true, imho..... But in the end - I don't really care. I didn't buy the ZL1 because "it was the best"...or because I fooled myself into thinking this is as good as its ever going to get. I just....like the car. A LOT.

It's an eyefull htron, or should I say awfull...LOL....
.As to the numbers put out so far, I initially thought back before the car was produced around 11.90 would be the number at about 118 mph. The 12.04 run made by a forum member at 117 or so recently posted certainly puts the car in factory trim at my level of expectations. The numbers once the cars get loosened will be sub 12 without any issue I feel. That's quite outstanding. A 10 something was posted today without a ton of modifications. 12.04 as to date in stock trim is pretty fast. The performance guys tweaking the car as of late will only continue to build upon the numbers as we move forward and fine tune the ride. It's a new platform. I'm staying very optomistic for some impressive gains.

Seems to me that it's in a shop's "best interests" to go out and run a single-attempt baseline number (1/4-mile OR dyno) without any efforts to maximize the OEM set-up. "Ran 12.50s", or "465 rwhp", as an example. Now, ALL efforts seem to shift to what their unique and incredibly talented personnel/program can do for you. "WOW!! We shaved half a second and/or found 15% rwhp improvement with our SuperAwesomeIncredibleMaxiPowerTune!!!" Only $495!!! Hopefully, someone will spend a little time and effort to see what, as Number 3 states, can be accomplished with a properly broken-in "untouched" version. |

I glanced at the SVT forums once very briefly. There was section that had pages and pages dedicated to denigrating Camaro5 and the ZL1, which I have no plans to visit again. The need to disparage and belittle others is a clear indication by those who do so that they have some very deep seated insecurities and fears. I feel sorry for those people.
The 2013 GT500 is simply not the car for me, although, I don't need to spend an endless amount of time criticizing it. In fact, I think that the 2013 GT500 will likely be a fine car. However, I don't care much about simple straight line performance and quarter mile times or a 200 MPH top speed. I am much more interested in all around performance and handling, which can be made use of in every day driveabilty. That's the main reasoning why the ZL1 is the car of this era for me, in addition to the fact that I really like the ZL1's styling.

![]() Yes. It's a an important point that not many people appear to be acknowledging, and that is that after market shops have no incentive to spend any time trying to maximize a vehicle's performance in stock form, and, in fact, after market shops have an incentive not to do so. The bigger percentage increase in performance that after market shops can show with their "product," the better their "product" looks. I suspect that it will be months before the full performance potential of a stock ZL1 will be realized.
