Not a shock at all. The magizines are a more credible source than people posting their times, but of course there will be cars built faster (with better drivers, and better conditions) than the ones used in the magazines. The magizines just consitantly show that the Mustang is a bit faster. The 12.7 sec ones tested likely had the 3.73 gear in the car, as far as I can tell.

I did look at the first page of the article, and didn't see where it said the guy that ran 12.5 had a 3.31. Crazy fast (bit hard to believe that it was not modified or wrong gear was indicated). If he had a 3.73 I wonder what he would have gotten.

The fastest quarter mile times have come from the 3.31 or 3.55 geared 5.0s. Completely stock of course.

My only advice, to the op, would be to go look at and drive all 3. See which one you like better.

And that is with 3.15 gear.

OP, do your own weighing and buy the car that makes you happy. Asking a bunch of people on the internet for their opinion (mostly biased opinion given by blind fan boys) is just lame. Go and drive each of the cars you have on your list, research comparison articles by popular magazines and make a decision. Car appearance is very subjective. What looks nice to you may look 100% fugly to the next person. A lot of the fan boys will quote performance numbers etc. etc. like they themselves would know or feel the negligible difference, which is the funniest thing to me.

If you like losing your car in the mall parking lot around Christmas, buy a mustang. With a Camaro you will always see it sticking out from the masses.

Edit.. Although you prolly wouldn't take your Camaro to the mall at Christmas, so +1 for the mustang, I guess.

To me (the universal qualifier), the Mustang looks like a compact. It also feels like a compact when I sit down in one. The Camaro feels and looks like a muscle car...to me. So does the Challenger.

To the OP- the Mustang and the Camaro (and Challenger too) are great car's. What you need to do is go and drive both back to back and decide which one makes you smile the most. I have no problem with people buying American Muscle no matter what the tag on it says. Ford, Chevy, Dodge- it's all good to me.
Oh yeah, I forgot about the leg room! the Mustang is definitely cramped in the front seat for a person with long legs. Even if I wanted the Mustang I personally couldn't have bought it for a daily driver because of this. Short trips are fine, but if my legs are up against the dash, then they'll be sore if I'm driving like that regularly.

A BS review (which most of them are) are the ones where they compare two vastly different models, or have upgrades on a Mustang vs a near stock 2SS before they run the comparison. That and of course you have the "highest bidder" reviews that mysteriously end up plastered all over a magazine beyond their comparison shots. A real review is taking both cars in a controlled environment and really putting down numbers. Everything I've seen thus far has been a couple editors going neck and neck and that's not a review or comparison. That's a sham.
