That's actually the exact intent of the tax. :(

Frankly, I think they can find the relatively low amount of money from somewhere else...

We are talking 4 mpg difference between no tax and a $2,600 gas guzzler tax (22.5 mpg vs 18.5 mpg) what a joke. Meanwhile I get 13.3 mpg in my Ram 1500 Hemi and paid no gas guzzler tax.

Trucks don't count when charging a GG tax. They do have that advantage...

Yup Trucks, Vans, SUV's are exempt from the GG tax which makes the tax that much more absurd. I think it would be more accurate to call it the gimmie some of your money for no good reason tax. I wonder if the state will charge me sales tax on the gas guzzler tax that would just about be par for the course.

They will. The GG tax is not a tax to consumers, at all. It's charged to the manufacturer...who then passes on the cost to us. It gets billed no different than an option. :(

So the 2013 ZL1 is there any info on them yet? Second question, has anyone priced insurance on these beasts yet?

How about a ZL1 HYBRID... ? Regenerative braking with an electric motor at both forward corners for AWD might be a nice touch; kind of like the ACURA NSX Concept car that might be released in 3 years.

That figures. It could be worse I could still be living in NY where they tax home loans.

I *SWEAR* I'm not stalking this thread!

(It's on my subscriptions list, and every time I refresh, this thread makes it back to the top! )

2013 ZL1 will introduce the convertible. So far, that's all we know. As for insurance...I'm sure it'll vary from person to person...but when I quoted myself, it's only about $50 more than an SS for six months.

So amigo, MY OTHER CRITERIA YOU USE would be based on how many you see on the way to work, and motor be damned. If you LIKE the MUSTANG's with every 10th car i see being one, how do you feel being just another mustang in those 10?
All but one with Gt500 decals and scoops on it, but that second car back is also blue and it's a six banger. How proud does that make you?

This. Not to threadjack but I cant wait for the NSX to be released. It represents a positive energy direction for us performance enthusiast...I heard the next gen Toyota Supra would be hybrid powered.

Back on topic...I think both ZL1 and GT500 will kick ass. The shelby will be slightly faster in a straight line but the ZL1 will be easier to drive fast and handle better...therefore what do you want? Something that you cant afford to make a mistake in (but will yield slightly better lap times if you get it perfect) ?; or something you can be somewhat an amateur with and lay down consistently fast respectable times (yet maybe not the fastest times)?

Buy what makes you happy but if you buy a ZL1 and turning 50 we could be twins.
