But with April being tax month, and I am going to be owing alot of taxes to the IRS this year; I figured I better save my money, and do the right thing. So in very early March, I called the bank and got it worked out where I ended up finally dropping the Camaro "Christine", off at the bank branch. My dad picked me up and drove me to lunch. I left all of the paperwork, manuals, factory paperwork, bills of sale, title, brochures, financing paperwork, everything in the car; and the keys to the bank manager. The car is going to auction, but I dont know when exactly or where, but I live near Lexington, KY.. The car is fully loaded (V6, 6 speed manual, 10,500 miles, a few light scratches that can be buffed out) with stripes and tinted windows, plus I left the lifetime XM subscription active. I hope that will get me the best bidder at the auction when it sells.
I have to commend you on owning up to your responsibilities and for knowing that this moment had to be dealt with right away. :(
Although this moment really stinks...rest assured that it wont always be like this....better days and other cars ahead...and who knows..maybe a Camaro will be in your future again?

Bad things happen to good people some times, it takes a lot for someone to be upfront and do the right thing as you did, and for this I hope that someday soon you will be aptly rewarded.

Oh, and don't leave your XM sub, it will make no difference in sale of the car whatsoever, just transfer it to a different radio, or even give it to a friend.

I agree. He financed a V6 Camaro at 635 a month for 5 years. He only had it for a year, so you can figure he's still at least 26-28k into the car. The bank might sell it for what, 18-20k at auction? He's still gonna be on the hook for the remainder of that money.
during a horrific divorce I had a vehicle repo'd... Was told that when the vehicle went to auction they would be happy to get 1/2 of trade in value... luckily ended up going for almost trade-in value...

I dont see how this is anyones business but your own and your family. However you chose to disclose it nonetheless. Either way I hope you land back on your feet. To many people quick judge not fully knowing the circumstances.

I live by the motto I cant take it with me when I'm gone so I'm going to enjoy life to the fullest while I can. Especially the way the world is today I live in MD and commute to DC. I may die in some elaborate terrorist plot or some other bizarre way tomorrow. I make a pretty decent living but I never really stress over finances. If I got it I got it if I dont oh well i'll get it later. And if not then it wasnt meant to be.

Probably too late but if I were you I'd strip every mod you had off the car, and also take the XM subscription and do something with it. Sell the CAI and whatever else you can to help pay for any bill you have after they auction it off. I doubt any of that will increase the value of the auction price.

Yep, and they legally go after you for it... they don't really care what it goes for at auction, you are still on the hook for the difference.

If you can afford an $800 per month payment, good for you buddy. You are (believe it or not) an anomaly. Most people can not afford that kind of car payment, let alone a $635 one.

My payment was $635 a month and I had no problems making that for the most part. I couldn't even afford the insurance either.

So this is long enough for now, I will let you post your replies, and again, please be kind & gentle? Your talking to a VERY deeply hurt guy.
Jeez, can't people read!! A fellow owner just went through a tough time in his life. I am sure some here have had hardships and made bad decisions before. I guess it is easy to say bad things to someone when you sit behind a computer screen!! I am sure people can't say half the stuff they type here infront of that person!!

Wow many of you are kicking this man while he is down. Not saying what you are saying is wrong as far as him living outside of his means, tho we don't know what kind of job he lost which is a huge factor, but there is a thing called tact and compassion plus at the very least he did the right thing and turned it in.

Hey man hang in there. I'm struggling too. After graduating college in 08 I'm still searching for a job in my field, accounting, and I'm currently working at a crap job to get by. But I'm doing what I can to get better and am now half way through an mba so just do the best you can in this economy making choices that will payoff in the long run if not the short. As a matter of fact ppl might think I'm stupid cuz I bought my camaro after starting the mba and putting my student loans in deferment but I still think that despite the fiscally questionalbe move that it was the right move cuz i need joy in my life during this most stressful time and it satisfies that. And if you keep your credit then maybe you can go buy an ls like mine, paid 22,300 for it financed out for 6 years so my payment is only 378 and I'm willing to bet that you could afford a payment like that in the not so distant future so just maybe you can rejoin the camaro family sometime soon.

You said it all. It is very easy to run your mouth on a computer without knowing all the facts and from a safe distance. But jesus christ have an f-ing heart. Someone said we should have a years worth of payments in savings so what you are saying is that only well off people should buy new cars cuz the vast majority of ppl are not able to save even on a less extravgant purchase. Maybe he overextended himself but if you read between the lines and recognize the fact that after the credit crunch that came after the housing market crash that he must have had a pretty good job for a bank to give him that kind of a loan. At that payment that would be a relatively high risk loan so the bank must have had a reason to give it to him i.e. a well paying job, as they are not handing out credit like they used to. So a guy loses well paying job and then loses his camaro and you not ony don't have compassion for him but you pound on him too? Your not the kind of ppl I want to associate with!
