I agree. It probably is a Chick car. And they aren't just driving V6s; GTs and Saleens I see around here usually have a woman driving them...

For the most part, whenever I see a badass GT a little up the road, I don't even bother pulling up to see who's driving it because I know it will be a woman behind the wheel.

Not that I think that's a bad thing, but it's definitely turning into a Chick car...

I have this quirk now, I no longer look for women in the regular Mustang models, I've caught 3 of them in GTs the last five days. It just might be here in IL, that women love any version of the Mustang. It's amazing how many women are driving them and in the winter even.

What will be cool is seeing a gal in a new Camaro and a girl in a Mustang pulling up next to each other at a light. That will be interesting.

2KO5GT, You mention 2008 cars and the percentage of male vs female ownership. I wonder if those numbers take into consideration the women who buys her (not soon enough ex-) husband HIS convertable? Still, I don't like the chick car thing. I prefer to think of all chevy camaro drivers as well informed consumers with exceptional taste.

2KO15GT, I also feel your pain as I also had a brief moment of defense when a 16 year old, learning how to drive a shift, slammed into me in an intersection. I missed being T-boned but still my truck was totaled.

Female was head of '99 mustang development

In case you didn't know: (not that there's anything wrong with that)
Janine Bay, Inducted 1999
Janine Bay was the Chief Program Engineer for Mustang, January 1997 through August 1998. She had previously been vehicle line director for Mustang since 1994 and was responsible for the 1999 SN95 freshening. Ms. Bay had led the team that developed the first SVT Mustang Cobra in 1993.

I'd like to point something out, then, too.

Anybody heard of a woman named Cheryl Pilcher? hmmm...for those of you who haven't, she's the new Camaro Product Manager....

Side Note: This isn't the best of sites, but it had an interview with her in early '07...I think some here might find some of the stuff she says quite informative.

Just don't comment on the interview in here, please. Thank you!!

as much as you probably hate to hear this....

There are two things that everyone on this site needs to hope for:

1) That the v6 model will be a HIGH seller among young drivers (18-25)
2) That women like the Camaro more than the mustang.

There are two reasons that the Mustang sells so well and you see so many women in them. Most young drivers like the v6 models and yes the v6 generally appeals to women - and women LIKE the mustang. There was a survey done around the time that they "cancelled" the camaro - and it was clear that the mustang was a far more popular car than the Camaro.

V6 sales drive the car. The v8 is higher priced and less people are likely to buy it. As such, if no one buys the v6, the v8 costs too much to produce and it hurts the bottom line of the vehicle. You have to have v6 sales to keep the v8 alive. It's just a matter of fact. More v6 mustangs are sold than v8 mustangs, and thats what lets Ford do all their "Special Vehicle" options and whatnot - because the car sells so well to women drivers and the younger crowd, the v6 being the driving force behind the sales - the v8 enjoys a happy restful spot and can be purchased by anyone that wants it.

I PRAY that the v6 Camaro is as popular with women as the mustang currently is or the new Camaro line might be very short-lived...

My wife LOVES the new Camaro, and I'm sure she would buy one, and she doesn't care if its a V-6 or a V-8!
