I've seen how people up north drive in snow. Best described as bumper cars.

Winters in the Camaro are no problem. It's not like driving RWD cars from 40 years ago. Just put on the proper tires and use a little bit of driving skill.
I run the stock RS rims and tires in the summer, and 18" Camaro steel wheels and Blizzaks in the winter. Here are some pics. Ironically the top is down with the winter set up and the top is up with the summer set up.

Nice choice for the winter rims! Those heritage steelies are HEAVY - great for winter driving.

BTW, here's a vid of a guy driving around in snow with pzero summer tires in a 2010 2SS:
and here is another doing the same, only he's having a much worse time of it... So, it can be done, as evidenced by the 1st vid (and this guy posted a 2nd vid of him driving around in all-season tires, having a much easier time of it). |

hes lucky he didnt kill someone. shouldnt have a licence if he thinks he can do that on public roads. even if he didnt put it in the ditch he could have caused oncoming traffic to panic and they might have. The only time iv seen a camaro being driven in the winter was in 2010 when they came out and that was in buffalo. I see kids in Mustangs in the ditches all the time. I just drive by and laugh. Id say the V6 with snow tires should be ok. the heavier the better and these cars are heavier then most. I didnt even think of buying a car until i could also get a 4x4 for the winter.

We drive all year round top down. However, I wish it would rain and snow here. We need it.

Drive my 2LT in winters w/stock all season tires. Strange but true my summer only auto is a heavy front wheel drive 1998 Riviera but never driven on a salted road. Only 10 mins to work on flat well plowed/salted streets in Ottawa. When I special ordered the 2LT dealer offered me the RS package for 1/2 price but did not want it because of the summer tires & did not want to store winter tires & rims (live in an urban highrise so can not store at home). Until the Camaro was driving front wheel drive autos with all seasons since the 1970s & never a problem in snow.
The stock Camaro all season tires suck in snow, worst I have had in decades. Issue: not the car but the all season tires. Wish I could find a better tire to fit my 19" rims. However, good for me only have to drive to work 3-days a week, have about 20 days sick leave a year, and a professor. Weather gets too extreme I just cancel classes so my students pray for snow because they know this Texas expat does not like driving in the white stuff - LOL. Two winters ago a Toyota with brand new snow tires bumped my rear at a stop sign (chipped bumper paint $650). She was going very slow (about 5 mph), but ice on slight decline street = screwed. Most people in Ottawa know how to drive in bad weather. Yet every winter I see 2-3 fender benders in the campus parking lot. Wonder what that is all about (in a hurry & late for class)? When winter semster starts I tell my students if they don't feel safe to drive, stay home & will not record them absent if they email me. Watching that last vid of the Camaro slipping almost made me feel sick as there is a winter chill in the air. Next month also have to make my annual appointment to have the Camaro rust treated ($120). |
