Probably because more younger inexperienced drivers that are getting their first Camaro are getting the V6 over the SS which means everyone's insurance on the V6 would be slightly higher. At least that is what I am thinking.

Off topic, I didn't think anyone ever traded an SS for a V6, at least that is what just about everyone says on here. I'll keep you in mind next time someone says that.

This is only common sense.

The Camaro has been selling more cars then Ford, so more will get stolen. The Camaro and the Mustang has sold more cars compared to the challenger, so the Challenger has less cars stolen.

It's kind of like saying, "Corvette is the most stolen Performance Vehicle" and then the article proceeds to say, 69 Corvettes were stolen while only 1 Bugatti Veyron was stolen.

Although just to put this in percentages.... There has been 385,891 Camaros delivered since 2009. This article says that 1509 have been stolen from 2009 up until December 2012. (I'm too lazy to subtract whatever amount of Camaros that were sold from January 2013 - October 2013, so I'm just going to include them) In a percentage, 1,509 stolen Camaros out of 385,892 is less then .4 percent.
That's 60% less than even 1% of all 5th gens sold!

Post says: Camaro is NUMBER ONE!

According to Huffington post anyhow... We're #1!!!
(ummm.... is this a good thing?!)

-----------------------------------------------------
During this reporting period, a total of 3,780 Sporty vehicles were reported stolen in the United States. By far, the mid-sized class had the most theft activity with 3,271 thefts, or 87 percent of the Sporty total. Within that class, the Chevrolet Camaro had the most theft reports (1,509), followed by the Ford Mustang (980) and the Dodge Challenger (782). Indeed those three vehicles had the highest theft figures of the entire report. Rounding out the top five most stolen Sporty vehicles were the Porsche Panamera (103) and the Audi A5/S5 (101).

Here is a chart of the top makes and models:
Sporty Vehicle Thefts by Make & Model

Chevrolet Camaro 1,509

Ford Mustang 980

Dodge Challenger 782
--------------------------------------------------------------

I guess more car thieves have good taste?

To be fair the stat is a tad bit juiced up. being as they sell more Camaros than mustangs and more mustangs than challengers it makes sense that they would fall like that. But on another hand.... Who would steal a Challenger? blaahhh

When I bought my Camaro - I worked for Cummins. We got better than staff pricing on Chrysler/Dodge products. I *still* refused to buy the Challenger!!!!!

I wanted a challenger but after cross shopping a Camaro its really a no brainer.

As far as stealing these cars go, isn't it rather difficult to do because you have to have the key with the chip inside of it?

That's funny, my dealership in Jasper, TN had 2 2014 camaro ss stolen. How though? They went in one day, stole the keys. Went the next and stole the cars. Along with a few trucks. Onstar tracked the cars and the dealer got them back. I bet you could get a steal of a deal on them now. Stupid people now days

i got a Viper alarm system on my garage queen car.
it notifies you on your cell when you come close to car, break in, drive it pass 40 mph, go out of your zone area, going into another zone area.
it will call you, text you, and show on the app.
I might have to put it now on this one too.

Interesting article. Before I bought my car, I have often walked around and browsed a few local Chevy dealer lots drooling over all the Camaros. This was usually after hours since I didn't want to be bothered by the piranhas. On at least two different occasions and dealer lots, I had to call the cops because either the dealer left the keys in the door, or in the ignition. It made me curious to see if these dealers were just trying to get rid of their cars and collect insurance money instead, or it was just an honest mistake. I expected at least a thank you call, or a special offer, but nope - nothing. One of the dealer pretty much told me that they were insured anyways. No matter what, I couldn't just walk away knowing someone could steal these beautiful cars.

I wonder if there's any truth to the old tale that manuals get stolen much less than automatics...
About a year ago a doctor was leaving the parking lot of Orlando Reg Med Center in his C6. Two gang banger bozos pulled him out of the car and attemped a car jack. Idiots couldnt drive a stick, so after stalling it out once or twice they took off on foot and needless to say they got caught. I wish I could find the news article, because the Doc said one of the guys yelled "what the heck is this extra pedal!!?"
