I could see the supercharged 6 as being more expensive (insurance wise) than the v8 because of the price to have it fixed -- plus, modding an engine shows, in a way, that you're trying to drive fast. A stock V8 and a heavily modded V6 would be driven by two completely different types of people, and the insurance companies have to take that into account. Just my .02

im just waiting on the options details. as long as the v6 has the options i want i will be pretty happy. the other thing that might sway me, but most likely, not would be a big difference in suspensions. handling to me is more fun than the raw power anyways. hopefully if the suspension isnt the best, there will be at least add ons aftermarket or in options to put it where i want it.

I was reading hemmings muscle machines mag, the June edition. Anyway, in the magazine they were talking about our beloved Camaro and mentioned that it will come with the DI V6 from the caddy. Nothing new right, but they went on to say it would most likely only put out about 260 HP!
here is the quote "plans to build an entry-level V-6 version of the car have been scrapped, and instead the base engine will be GM's four-cam, direct-injection V-6, and engine that's rated at more than 300 horsepower in the Cadillac CTS but is said to put out around 260 in production camaro trim." -Hemmings Muscle Machines Pg. 10 |

Indeed, speculation is that the V6 will have enough power to keep up with if not pass the Mustang GT. I do believe the V8 Model will own GT500's as well.

I doubt the base V8 Camaro at 400HP will be able to win a drag race against a GT500. However around a track with lots of twists and turns and the GT500's HP advantage loses to IRS on the Camaro. I would imagine the top dog Z28 Camaro supercharged V8 will smoke the GT500 on a dragstrip by a whole cars lengh... I'll be happy with the base V8 at 400HP or more for under 30K...

lol well I will say this it depends on the driver of the GT500 and the driver of the camaro. I almost beat a GT500 (he ran a 12.76) here in fayetteville. with less then 400hp in my camaro. . .but honestly don't know what mine had been making. never had it dynoed. you ask how. . . .well he just got the car and didn't know how to launch it. I was his first race. If I hadn't missed a shift it would have been with in 1 or 2 tenths with me at 12.5. So. . .to say the least the driver mod is the most important factor.

Driver's matter so much. Launches are key and very few know how to do them well. It took a lot of practice for me. My wife picked it up like that. She's a keeper. She just doesn't like manual shifting unfortunately.
