I for one will not be using one. I've not heard one valid argument here supporting that it is beneficial or from anyone claiming to be a GM engineer.
Why don't you try talking to the Mechanics and Techs at the GM dealers who told me how they hate the upper engine cleaning job they have to do on these engines at high mileage because of all the oil buildup, and how they were glad I at least had a catch can and how the cleaning job wasn't that bad. Plus the engineers put a clean side catch setup on the 1LE and the Z28 has one that prevents oil residue from entering the intake elbow on the Z28 filter go figure.

I haven't heard one valid argument that it hurts your car, either. Did the GM engineer say it was bad to use one? I'm guessing not. Your cabin filter isn't needed either, yet there it is on some cars, but not on others. Why is that? I haven't seen one valid argument from a GM engineer to say cabin filters are needed. But if given a choice, I think filtration without harm to the process is a good idea.

I know PLENTY of design engineers at work that have several revisions to their drawings (that's usually for a reason). Sometimes things don't always work in the real world as designed on paper. The engineer you talked to, in his opinion, doesn't think it is needed. Your car isn't going to die right away from not using it, so yes, you likely won't have acute issues based on the design. Yay. If that's good enough for you, go with it.
I don't believe avowing you're NOT going to use one is really much of a virtue. I don't really give two craps if someone uses one or not. I don't even give a crap about what the engineer says short of saying it would be bad to use one because (fill in the blank)... I'm using one based on what I want for my engine.

Your car, your money.

One of the annual car shows is right down the street from the GM Milford proving grounds, and GM typically sends several of their new Camaros (including cammo'd test vehicles) and engineers every year.

They are very passionate about what they are making.

Do they sometimes have to be careful about what they say? sure they do, but you can ask them anything and they'll give you an honest answer.
Who said anything about the GM engineers not being cool and talking with us normal folks? I've had the pleasure of talking with them at a Corvette Stingray driving event at the Fontana Speedway.

Do they call random Camaro owners out of the blue......who knows...I've never heard of that. lol

Yes, a good sum of the early ZL1 owners got unsolicited calls from GM engineers. Search old posts and you shall find.

KaBoom 1701 ..... There have been others that have been called as well. Just because you haven't heard of it must mean it never happened I guess lolol. It came around the same time as the birth cirtificate did. I spoke about several aftermarket modifications that are popular on these cars. It wasn't an catch can conversation only. I have nothing to prove to you nor do I really care if you believe the conversation took place or not. Your comments are argumentative and rude. I was sharing with the ZL1 community what I learned after talking to the factory engineer for everyone's benefit. Have a great day.

"How to use the internets....."

Express your option and then sit back and watch the fireworks fly!

I am not currently running a catch can, but I do understand that they are a good upgrade. I'd have to do some additional research before I did such an install.

On the topic of GM, my understanding is that they are eager to have a dialogue with their consumers. That's why they send some of the top brass in the Camaro team to major car shows, including Camaro5Fest.

None taken. I agree that the pushrods and the current LS motors don't NEED them. But direct injected vehicles, like your V6 camaros, those will definitely need it.

Here's a bad analogy for what you said. Basically, you trust a rusty balance beam from AMCO that could've been salt Oxidization proofed, but it wasn't. Just because you trust the engineers knew what they were doing. You're going to walk that balance beam still without fixing it? Me, I would rather have done the Oxidization proofing myself, knowing that the company didnt, when they should have..... Suppper bad analogy, but do you get my point?

Sure they know what they were doing. But doesn't mean they aren't trying to make money by taking short cuts or making it so you have to, DARE I SAY, buy more shit!!!

Mine had about 2oz in it after about 3000 miles which includes many laps at VIR and a few runs at the dragstrip. Simple and it works.

Not to weigh in on either side, just to add some perspective...

2 ounces in 3,000 miles is .000666 ounces per mile.

There are 600 drops of oil in an ounce so that comes out to 0.4 drops of oil per mile.

How much air does the engine ingest per mile? I have no idea, but it is probably a lot.

So it comes down to how you feel about 0.4 drops of oil dispersed in whatever volume of air the car is ingesting per mile passing through your intake.
