Probably not. 6' of unsupported space becomes a PITA for side impacts and rollovers.

NEAT!! They could use a little Xb/Cube style car.
Glad GMC got the work, too. It'll help bring some youth back to the brand.

this is what i found more interesting about the motortrend article

"No word yet on when to expect a production version of the vehicle. In other product news from the event, GM also reportedly showed off an image of its new Impala and offered further confirmation of its coming new small Buick crossover. It also revealed that the next Chevy Traverse crossover will have a "Camaro inspired" grille. - Todd Lassa contributed"

I don't see why this should be a GMC. I had a hard enough time accepting the Acadia crossover as a GMC. They are a truck and SUV brand. I don't see the connection between that and urban boxes.

They need to branch out. Otherwise every time fuel prices go up, the GMC brand will tank. They also need some unique vehicles, so they aren't so easily dismissed as a Chevy rewrite brand. I don't expect Chevy to get a version of this thing (at least not in terms of design), and it wouldn't fit in at Cadillac or Buick.

This is compact utility...so it fits more than a Cruze or other sedan/coupe would.

People will always need trucks and SUV's and will pay for them regardless of the price of gas. I agree that it makes no sense to sell compact cars as GMC's, but diluting a brands image in order to boost sales is a very bad idea in my mind. GMC should build kickass trucks and SUV's at a premium. The Granite, while looking better than most urban boxes, is still an urban box. It doesn't deserve showroom space along side Yukons and Sierras.

If GM really sees a need for this type of vehicle would have been Pontiac (albeit with different styling) since it was supposed to be a youth oriented brand and these are supposed to be youth oriented cars. Since that can't happen they should make it a Chevy.
